    KAQ New River

Well, we received our New River underquilts late last week, a long one for me and a normal for my 9 year old son. Even though it was going to be around 0 degrees we set up our tarps and Grand Trunk UL hammocks with a WalMart CCF pad and the New River and attempted to sleep out. Well, we made it till about midnight where I noticed my backside was a bit cold (I am a side sleeper)... But that is a bag problem, the underquilt worked wonderfully. My feet (which are always cold) were toasty warm in the wool socks. The side of my body on the CCF pad was warm, on the verge of hot. I would say that if it had been in the 20's I would have been pretty good with the clothes I had on. Thanks to Arrowhead Equip. for their wonderful product and service.

Hey Kerflop, Glad they got there in good shape. Once this chill breaks they should be just about right for most of your normal weather. Let me know if you need anything at all.

I plan on ordering some buckles and chian link soon... We currently use a two ring system with our webbing. The rings are pretty heavy, but I don't know the weight, and the rope (which was all I had at the time) is well above the stuff you use in terms of weight.

This weekend it should be in the mid 20s overnight (if the weather man is correct, so I am not holding my breath). If that is the case we should be toasty warm...

Very cool, the Cinch Buckles have been super popular, we have been going through them and Chain Links like crazy. Got lots in stock though

20's should be a lot more comfortable

    Hey Paul,

Any pics or illistartions on how to properly hang the new river? I am not sure I am doing it correctly... I can post pics this weekend but if you have anything (close ups would be great) of how to do it properly would be a big help.

I've just been hooking mine to the rings using the included mini-biners and cinching the draw cords on the ends to snug up the ends. Has worked great so far.

Oh, I miss-interpreted the description of your configuration.

Oh, those rings... I was thinking you were talking about loops or something on the hammock it self... I think the rings may be too far away from the hammock to clip to... They are a good foot or so from the gathered end of the hammock. Plus I think I have finally decided to drop the rings for a whoopie sling and toggle setup... The weight difference should be great...

My SB Pro is about 10.5' long so the shock cord does have to stretch pretty far to reach my rings. It's a tight stretch but I don't think it's too tight. I could replace the shock cord for a longer piece to give me a longer reach or maybe just add a prussik loop along the suspension line to anchor it to.

Going with the whoopie slings you could even build an anchor point into the slings for the UQ like Plaunius was doing here with the loop hanging down below the sling.
