I prefer to remain an enigma.
I have no words to describe what got me into hiking. I'll use pictures instead to show what draws me to the North Cascades, yet pictures are an injustice.
Obviously camping and hanging just fall into place.
My first time camping was at the tender age of six months, so, been doing it my entire life. Discovered hammocking after I started kayak camping, much more compact and certainly much more comfortable. A friend brought one to some islands out in the lake and set it up. Five minutes in there and I was planning a trip to Winnipeg to go to MEC. Got my Hennessy and have been adding quilts, etc., as I go. I'm now a full timer, got rid of my bed and sleep like a baby, even after a midnight shift. I even got my boyfriend hooked on hanging. His first time in one, he couldn't believe he slept 11 hours!!
OMG Hulk, those pictures are AMAZING!! You are truly blessed with that kind of scenery!

The fact that all backcountry trails have no cell reception and some campgrounds do.
Also, hiking in to a spot creates what my chums and I refer to as an "@ssh0le filter". Nobody is going to put as much effort as it takes to get into the backcountry just to be a jerk when they get there. Loud stereos are too heavy to pack in a backpack.
Tom and his line of HH's.
Never bought one or even tried one out for a hang, and probably won't.
His was the site I kept going back to over and over.......until I found Just Jeff's then stumbled in here and met a guy named Shug

Without showing all the pictures again I have to say I love the pictures. I would love to go there as well a bunch of other places.

Was really overweight all through highschool, some friends and I decided to try out a hike. I quickly became addicted to getting fit, and hiking was a huge exercise outlet. From there, it has all spiraled into a massive outdoorsman addiction. Pretty much no outdoors sport I haven't tried, and any I haven't are on the list!
Now I can't help but be intensely interested in bushcraft of all sorts. Plan to travel the entire world wearing nothing but my hiking pack and sleeping in my hammock. Have already tackled Europe!
I wish I had time to respond to each individual story for i can feel how real and amazing every one of them is! Lots of scouts in here, was never a boy scout myself but its obviously done so many people good.
Hulk: those are beautiful! Thanks for sharing, scenery like that is a huge part of why I love the outdoors. I meditate as often as I can and nothing makes the setting like a wide range of mountains teaming with life and beauty.
I'm sure I'll read these stories again from time to time, gotta love all the memories and collaboration that brings them to everyone, cheers!
My wife's brother talked my ear off about camping and hiking, hiking and camping. He had a hard time convincing his buddies do a bit more of a rigorous camping experience and I said sure I'd give it a shot...
Came back from that trip sore bruised and some vicious blisters... but I survived, so now we're trying to go on the regular!
Psilocybin. Hey, it was the 70's.
