    Loons in the Echo

The trip to Bon Echo Provincial Park last weekend was a much needed break from the day-to-day urban chaos! Ryvr and Odd Duck arrived on Joe Perry Lake Friday morning and got to the site via canoe, Dant8ro and I kayaked in that afternoon but chased by a storm front, we had to setup in a down pour that didn’t let up till late Saturday with the exception on a few breaks here and there. Being June, the bugs were brutal but that’s the price paid this time of year, frankly, I’d take a rough day in back country over a routine day in the concrete jungle so no complaints!

Lots of critters on this campaign, many with young so there were lots of photo opportunities (attached for your viewing pleasure), on a couple of occasions unintentionally risked life and limb to get the shot. Unbeknownst to yours truly, Loons will charge the boat if you get to close to junior. In addition, we had frequent visits from a mother Raccoon, her den was 30 yards from camp and with two kits she kept an eye on us most of the time; surprisingly she didn’t bother with our food or gear.

The Sunday sun heated up our rocky shore and we discovered an abundance of “Creepy-Crawly” life. Dock Spiders, a Five-Lined Skink and a Northern Water Snake were the highlights.

The misty paddle out on Monday morning was very tranquil but marked the end of a great trip, a “cap-in-hand” thanks to my Camp Mates and as always, I look forward to our next hang!

Excellent photos [o]tter! Thank you for sharing. It looks like a great spot for a paddle and a hang. What type of canoe and kayak did your fellow campers paddle? I see an XP10 in there, a beautiful boat IMO.

Dant8ro paddled a Wilderness Systems Tsunami and Ryvr/Odd Duck have a Swift Kipawa.

I picked up the XP10 last week, this was her maiden voyage, its an awesome boat!

Nice trip report! Loved the pictures.

To me, loons are a special creature. I love listening to their calls.
