Basic Tarp Hang

What is the easiest way to hang a tarp without any hardware? Let's assume our only materials (aside from the stakes) are a roll of zing-it and a roll of shock cord. To make it as specific as possible:

1. What knot to use for the tree side of the ridgeline?
2. What knot to use for the tarp side of the ridgeline?
3. What knot to use for the tarp side of the guy-lines?
4. What knot to use for the stake side of the guy-lies?
5. What length should the guy-outs be?
6. If combining zing-it with shock cord for the guy-outs, how long should each part be (for example, 4 feet of zing-it + 2 feet of shock cord)?
7. Any other recommendations?

1) Timberhitch is a no-tie knot.

5)I do to 4 to 6 feet. Switch them out from time to time

I like the Siberian hitch, half hitch and adjustable featured here. I agree with Shug on the 4-6 feet although I like having a bit extra on mine.

I like to use the Dutch Ti Hooks http://dutchwaregear.com/dutch-hooks.html.

My suspension line is tied onto the RL attachment point of the Tarp. I put the hook onto a continuous loop and larks head that onto the line. I wrap the line around the tree and hook the Ti Hook to the RL tie out and cinch tight against the tree repeat on other tree and wallah your done. No knots and minimal hard wear. This also allows you to adjust the tarp from left to right with out untying any knots or unwrapping a figure nine or anything like that. IMHO its the simplest way to attach a tarp to a tree.
