How I DIY a Hex Tarp

Here is a video I made while making a Hex tarp with Make Your Gear's Xenon Sil .9

Very helpful video! Thanks for posting it.

Do you mind sharing your parts list? It would be good to know what you used.

In addition, what are the dimensions of the tarp? Did you use a template for it?

Well I had posted a full list of items from MakeYourGear, but my son shut down my computer in the middle of the upload and it got deleted. I will make it again....naturally I deleted my file when I pasted it into the video description.

All parts can be purchased at MakeYourGear dot com
    Quantity Description

    Tarp
    7 yards - Xenon Sil .9
    1/2 yard - 300D Pack Material
    2 - 1" Triangles
    1 yard - 1 inch Grosgrain Ribbon
    4 - Linelocs 3
    1 yard - 1/2 inch Grosgrain Ribbon

    Ridgeline
    2 - 25' Zing It
    1 - Titanium Dutch Hook
    1 - Fleaz

    Tieouts
    1 - 1/16" Braided Cord - 25' Glow in the Dark

I cut the ridgeline to 11'2" and each outside edge to 6'2" so after the rolled hems I would have a full 11' ridgeline and 6' edges

Great vid doogie!!! Very informative and great looking finished product. This has given me the confidence to make an attempt on another tarp. Mine wasn't a cat cut and didn't turn out as clean as yours Thanks again for the well put together video!
If you don't know where you're going, any trail will take you there...

Thanks! With this fabric many don't bother with the cat cuts at all, but I like the look and 2" over 6' (the amount of curve in this tarp) is a lot easier than 6" over 6' (normally used in standard Sil Nylon)

I really appreciate guys like you. Who not only make the gear but take the time to make a finished video with music and time lapse! Excellent job

I especially like the explaination of the felled seam on the Ridgeline. Seeing it on a micro scale like that was super helpful to me as I have never done one before

Thanks, I realized that real time on the full seam would not be easy to follow (even sped up). I'm glad the editing is worth it, because I don't really enjoy it. The tarp has been done for almost a month while I was editing.

I hope it took a month because you were on trail so often!! It's hard work but Simone's gotta do it!
