My first exposure to hammock camping was a few years ago down in the Everglades on a week long trip with a couple buddies. We fished all day and stayed on the chickees at night. One of my buddies and I set up a tent for ourselves but my other buddy slept in his hammock. I had forgot my sleeping pad so woke up with a sore back every day while he got to hang in comfort. The compactness of his hammock compared to the tent and how comfortable he said it was stuck with me ever since.
A couple weeks ago my older brother mentioned wanting to get into camping but he doesn't have any gear, so I saw an opportunity to get some new toys. I pitched (pun intended) the idea of hammock camping to him and he was all for it.
I haven't ordered one yet but I'm pretty sold on the Tom Claytor Jungle Hammock. Looking forward to getting it so I can start figuring out what kind of modifications I want.
I've learned from lurking for a couple weeks that I'm way behind when it comes to abbreviations and sewing/craft capabilities. I have, however, convinced my wife to help when it comes time to make a TQ and UQ (she's much better at sewing) so hopefully I'll be set.
For those who say TL;DR, I'm new and really looking forward to getting started with hammock camping.
