Check out Grizz's HFDHS.
I have removed all hardware from my system. I do it slightly different than Grizz does. I have two loops of Amsteel with a double diamond knot. These get girth hitched to the hammock. The diamond knots become the attachment point for the ridgeline and the suspension whoopies. You could just run the whoopie through a channel and by-pass the diamond knot loop.
The whoopies get attached to the huggers in one of three methods. You can see my post in the HDHFS thread explaining the three different methods.
I just posted some pictures of how all the ends connect together on my hammock:

I use 1.2mm Tech Line from DIY Gear Supply to gather my end channels so I can larks head the whoopie to the ends for easy removal when cleaning.
My entirely DIY kit 1.1oz single layer 9'x4' hammock with 6' dynaglyde whoopies and 1.9mm Tech line ridgeline, and 1.1oz blackbishop bag only weigh 182g/6.4oz. My 6' polyester tree straps with 2.5" toggles and 1" Dutch clips only weigh 121g/4.25oz. So going without the toggles and Dutch clips would get the total weight down to 286g/10.05oz. But going lighter (Ala Sgt. Rock) is very possible.
Remember, it's nice to be able to detach your suspension from the hammock if it gets wet or coated with pine sap while on a hike. You don't want to store that suspension with your hammock. That said, you can use a loop of Amsteel on the hammock end and attach the whoopie with a soft shackle. I guess that would be considered "software" instead of "hardware."
But, in order to successfully accomplish a hardware free system, one MUST stay away from Dutch's website! Otherwise, you will have a completely titanium suspension

But Dutch makes some COOL stuff. He almost inspired me to build a hammock from titanium, but I was worried about packability, though I bet if he did it, he could keep the weight within an acceptable range.
I believe I am going with this:
1) AmSteel continuous loop larksheaded through the hammock channel.
2) Soft shackle instead of a carabiner from hammock to whoopie (Opie provided the inspiration here with his soft shackle/carabiner replacement video).
3) Whoopies (or SGT Rock's UCR) would attach to webbing loop (without a toggle, unless the thin diameter of AmSteel puts too much strain on the webbing over time).
I have and use carbon toggles and will keep them "in case." My primary concern here is that 7/64 AmSteel could cut into that webbing... Sticks found on the trail also work.
So there it is, thanks for your input. Appreciate all the good feedback.
Peace Dutch

I've been hanging with my 7/64 Amsteel sewn permanently into the loop on the endof my tree strap with no noticeable wear. If I get into a situation where the tree straps are too long due to closely spaced trees: I simply puts marlin spike hitching the tree strap & hook the whoopie loop over it.
