    Weather Sock Question

I sewed this up last night nd tested it today, just hanging there. The weave is looser than it looks but it works as intended. But how does one close up the opening at the head?

Make a channel in that end and either use cord and a cord lock or shock cord it. That's what I did on mine and it's worked well for me.

Yep - run a line or some shock cord thru a channel and one cord lock and your done. Nice work by the way. What type of material did you use?

Thanks, Lost. It's 3 yards of cotton suiting that I found in the closet among my grandmother's stuff, along with the sewing machine, knitting, and what I found out is called tatting, which were doilies that she always had on her chairs.

Tatting is almost a lost art. If you ever get the opportunity to watch someone you will amazed. Being a phone man in my youth I was able to fudge some time on occasions. Sat and watched and conversed with a lady as she was tatting for close to an hour once. Then found out that she was leagelly blind!

That looks something like what I want to do. But with a taper on each end, one has a zipper for sliding on, and a vertical zipper for exit. What did you allow for exiting?
My ego said, SURE you can.
Half way in my body said OH NO YOU CAN'T

It's just draped there so I peel it back ... until I build a way to secure the opening at the head. The shock cord and cord lock idea sounds good. I've got those materials already.

That should give you some warmth and breath very well. I'm interested in hearing a report if you hammock on a colder night. With the deep winter hammock socks for use in negative degree numbers, I wonder how your does for the 30's. Please keep us posted!

You have a nice "antique sock" there! Have you had a chance to weigh it yet?

I've not weighed anything, yet, Lost.

Slept out last night in the low 40s. The sock worked but see the need for an UQ protector. The gear piles up, huh?

Where are you hanging around Snyder? Not many trees in west Texas.
