    toggles

I have been working on some whoopie slings and marlin spike hitches and i am ready to start converting hammocks. I am not liking my toggles that I made. They are aluminum and they weigh about 6 or 7 grams. Sooo.....

What do you use for toggles, what do they weigh, and how long (wide are they)?

We used sticks found at the sites at Shawnee. I was skeptical, but they worked great and cost nothing to carry in.

I carried an aluminum arrow shaft cut down to 4" long as well. I have also used a hex key. they pull out nicely, but unless you can find an aluminum they are a little heavy.

Same here, I've been using sticks in most cases.

If I were to carry a toggle, though, I think a piece of wooden dowel is my most likely candidate.

Here are the Toggles I am using with my Whoo-Pie Slings. Working fine for a month or two.

More pics in my gallery just keep looking through the slides.

    I weigh in at 165-170lbs.
    2.5" Toggle= .1 oz

Used a Pipe cutter to cut the straw and some round files to smooth the edges out.. You can find them at 7/11 for $.99, they are Aluminum Slurpee Straws. This way you get a Brain Freeze much faster. I bought like 5 of them in different colors, so I would never have to worry about finding them again. At 2.5" you can get 4 out of each Straw.

We use sticks picked up from the ground. Cannot get any lighter than zero on the carry weight.

Tried some 2" sections of the 7-11 AL straws that were mentioned on one of the threads. I forget the weight. They work also, but are heavier than picked up sticks.

We're still in transition from the webbing to rope tree huggers and working the details on the rope huggers. Simplify, simplify.

I have lots of little ends I've cut from aluminum arrows, from 3 to 5 inches long. If anyone would like some, just PM me.

I'm using a carabiner as my toggle. I can also hang bags and stuff from them once they are tightened. Works good, and how much does a small biner weigh??

I've used ground sticks but usually have a short piece of dowel rod tied to the strap so that it's always there.

and I (gasp!) carry a full toothbrush too when I hike. No kidding. <grin>

wait wait, I'm getting an idea about dual use, I can just about taste it ...

I would have never guessed you brushed your teeth at Shawnee.

LOL, I can see Grizz moving his head back and forth over his suspension toggle now.

How does the amsteel Blue work for flossing? Does it result in Smurf gums?
