    Continuous loop

This is an idea spawned from OldGringo back on December 11 of 09. I sent him 4 loops of varying configurations in 7/64 to try out. Perhaps Ill coax him in here to give some feedback.

    In this Thread

I locked it with a brummel and pulled both tails in. Any length could probably be achieved... And it does feel strong...

This is the configuration I make my prusik knots from as well. Only with the 1.75mm line.

Opie, I would have posted about these sooner, but I've been waiting on some cinch buckles, which came late yesterday.

I enquired about these after a discussion wherein it became clear that splices degrade the strength of Amsteel much less than knots. Like so many others, I use a small Amsteel loop to make the transition from my hammock material to rings or cinch buckles, and had been forming those loops with back to back double fisherman's bends. Whoopie loops (for lack of a better term) seemed like a no brainer.

I put a set on an ENO knockoff that I had late last night...they install just like a knotted loop, but look a bit neater. I haven't hung on them yet, but don't forsee any problems. I'll let you know if they drop me.

So, I thought I'd just post a note about how I used my continuous loops.

I planned to use them to connect my tarp to a separate ridgeline.
But I didn't want to use biners or anything like that.

I know there are ways to get a girth hitch to the tarp and a prusik to the ridgeline with fancy rope play. But I was having a hard time wrapping my brain around the twists and turns.

So this is what I did instead.

Prusik the continuous loop onto a section of paperclip.

Then girth hitch each of those to the tarp tie-outs

Then pull the end of your ridgeline through the already-formed prusik, replacing the paperclip section (or whatever you use).

And if that doesn't work out, go with a klemheist.

    Nice job RAW...

You can also use a pencil...sharpie... Something a bit bigger.

In the past what Ive done is make the prusik on whatever its getting pruisked onto, and then do the buries around whatever its being attached to. Its permanent, though.

A hollow tube (like a straw) would provide a conduit - then withdraw the tube.

It doesn't really matter. When I use them on products, I'll use the part of the loop that doesn't have the bury in it. But thats just for appearence. If you using the loop to form a prusik, then you want to make sure you are using the part of the loop without the bury to make the wraps.

    Digging up an older one:

I like the idea and good thinking on getting the wraps on both ends of loop.

how long should each end be buried?

    thanks.
