    Roooomy DIY Hammock

I finished up a new gathered end hammock last week, just in time for an overnighter at the local state park with firecaptain53. I'm really happy with the way it lays and how roomy it feels inside.

The shape of the bugnet is a blatant copy of the Blackbird netting, albeit stretched a little longer and wider. The bed fabric is also half a foot longer. The ends are also gathered the same as a Blackbird. Can you tell I really like how the BB is put together?

The difference between mine and the BB is that mine has no shelf/footbox. This might seem like blasphemy to some, but I'm a side sleeper and decided I didn't really need the footbox, although laying stretched out diagonally, it is still roomier than anything I've made in the past.

The closed side is made exactly like the opening side, minus the zipper. I briefly thought about putting a zipper on both sides, but decided against the extra weight. I used some olive brown 1.9 ripstop from Speer Hammocks for the bed and some tan digital camo found at Hancock Fabrics for the side panels. Total hammock weight with whoopie slings is 22 oz.

Now it's time that I get back to tinkering with that bridge hammock that's on the back burner.

    Great looking project...

With the right side staked out, ala BB, how is the visibility from inside the occupied hammock?
