    does thread matter?

I've done a few DIY projects here and there- and just used what ever thread I could find in the old sewing kit- now I plan on starting a couple other decent projects and was wondering-Does thread matter? is there a certain kind I should be using? and if so- where do you get it? are there certain stitch patterns I should use?

    Yes it does.

Cheap thread can break easily and ball up while sewing. You will save yourself some headaches by getting a good thread. You also want to use polyester thread, not cotton or cotton blends.

I use Gutterman thread, available on Ebay and at Jo Ann's Fabric stores.

    YES!!!

Polyester thread only; no cotton nothin. Gutterman's is available almost everywhere, even Walmart. It's all I've ever used and haven't had any problems or excessive 'lint' in my machine.

I use Gutterman's thread as well. Holds up great!

The only stitch patterns I ever seem to use on outdoor gear are a simple straight stitch, or a zig-zag.
