The Strangers In The Woods A Scout The Wonder Dog Adventure

If you are not familiar with Scout the Wonder Dog, intrepid explorer, defender of hikers and campers and his faithful manservant, cook, and driver Sargevining, you can go here to read another of his thrilling adventures.

When he heard that a group of hammock hangers were going to brave the high temperatures and humidity of the Texas summer to prove thier manhood and bravery, he knew that he would have to attend to insure thier safety. He directed the ever faithful Sargevining to join this group in case his Mighty Bark would be of service during their foray into the wilderness.

"We must keep our secret identities under wraps until actually needed." He told Sargevining.

"Then we will travel with another individual, and attend as a group of three." replied Sargevining. "Scout the Wonder Dog is not known to travel in a group of three."

They arrived at the parking area accompanied by Mike, a good natured young fellow who was unaware that he was embarking on an adventure with the famous Scout the Wonder Dog.

Scout found the trail almost immediately. "Follow me." he said.

"This forest is unlike that which is found in our normal operating area. The trees are pine, taller and further apart, but with much dense undergrowth," he said, "luckily the trail is well worn and marked, we should be at the campsite soon."

Ten minutes later, they arrived at a campsite pitched in an area relatively clear of undergrowth and a short distance from the trail. Two Strangers were already there, The Caveman and an indivdiual who called himself "Tim"
but was revealed to be The Weatherman later in the day. A short time later, The Spaceweasel arrived.

"These names do not inspire confidence." Scout whispered to Sargevining, "this might be a meeting of Super Villians. It was a good idea to travel incognito."

"I think you may have been fighting crime and backwoods danger a bit too long." replied Sargevining "I think you're a bit paranoid."

Sargevining erected thier shelter, and just in time as it began to rain shortly after.

Rain began splashing into the shelter getting both Sargevining and Scout a bit damp.

"The Mighty Bark won't help here, you'll have to close the tarp up a bit." said Scout to Sargevining.

The tarp was closed, the splash in was eliminated and a short nap was had by all until the rain stopped. Shortly after The Safety Officer showed up, and Scout's suspicion that this was a meeting of backwoods villians was somewhat alleviated.

Darkness fell, and so did some branches onto The Safety Officer's tarp ("How ironic." quipped Scout) and a hearty meal was had where both Sargevining and The Spaceweasel displayed their talent as backcountry bakers. There was a conclave around a citronella candle that lasted until near midnight. They all retired to thier sleeping quarters each unaware of the adventure and danger that the next day would bring.

Suddenly, Scout the Wonder Dog let loose with a Mighty Bark aimed into the darkness-----

What danger lurked in the inky black of the forest night?

What danger awaits our Intrepid Explorers on the morrow?

Were the Strangers really Backwoods Villians in disguise?

    And what about breakfast?

    Stay tuned for Part II.
