Hello, has anyone tried plain bubble wrap for insulation underneath?

sticky, noisy, condensation, doesn't breathe, would not pack down well. That's what I see.

Welcome to the forum.

Closed cell foam would have better thermal qualities and be less fragile. Here in the states it can be purchased very inexpensively at Walmart.

I would end up popping them all while I sat around the campfire.

If I understand the problem with bubble wrap correctly it is similar to the use of a straight air mattress. Air, in and of itself is not a very good insulator. The medium which traps the air is what determines how well it insulates. For example a wall space sealed off and just containing air would be a better insulator than a wall space where the air moves around. But the same air space filled with fiberglass batting does a much better job. A down filled air mattress works better than a plain air mattress. Bubble wrap might provide some benefits but there would other things that work better.
