With all the great fabrics and colors coming on the market we have made some changes to our tarp line. New Colors, Lighter Fabrics, Cleaner Cat Cuts, and Simpler Construction all make for some GREAT looking tarps at new lower prices. Panel Pulls and Pole Mods are still available just not included in the base which also help us to lower the entry cost... These new construction details have been field tested for most of 2014 for durability with no field failures of guy outs or ridge connections.

We will use this tread to post pictures of all the new colors as we make them....

Here is a Hanger11WB in Olive Yellow 20d, 13.1 oz tarp only, 13.6 oz in stuff sack 132R x 116W, fully bound and taped edge

We are offering 20d silnylon in assorted colors as well as MultiCAM1.1 Sil in several cat cut hex tarps and 4S Tarp. Our tarps are edge taped and we are using a very simple yet effective guy out detail. I personally prefer the transfer of load from the guy out to the taped edge and directly through the cat cut, it adds weight but also is stronger and cleaner IMHO, I never did like the looks of a rolled hem on a cat cut. Ridge construction is a Reinforced French Seam and the simplest cleanest connection is a ring and the easiest end user replaceable ring is a split ring. This has been our ridge detail for quite a while no failures. We must be doing something different in our seam as we have not seen or heard of any failures of the ridge line connection. Our tarps have a straight cut ridge and pitch extremely well with out the need for a cat cut.

The same basic shapes and sewing techniques are all employed by cottage vendors, some overlap of details and construction will be unavoidable in products such as tarps. You have the choice of a french seam or flat feld seam for ridge line construction. If we had continued to use a flat feld seam then some would say it looks like SO & SO's tarps.

In the end quality of workmanship, customer service, and custom offerings all set the cottage vendors apart once you are looking at apples to apples, even if they are Gala Apples and Granny Smith Apples, they all taste GOOD....:cool::cool:

They have been selling since Jan 1, 2015, additional colors are available by request if not listed on the website. All imaging will be replaced with launch of new website that is being designed currently. Full E-Commerce site for your shopping enjoyment should be up and running in 4-5 weeks with a new domain name as well. Stay tuned for more details to come. In the mean time orders can still be placed on our current site.

Is there a reason why you use two rings on the tie-outs? Have there been failures with one ring? Just wondering since one ring always seemed plenty strong to me.

I and a few others have actually played with using them as a cinch buckle for the guy line. Thread the guy line through them like you would a double descender ring for straps and you have a quick locking adjuster. I find I need to back it up just like you would a descender cinch buckle for webbing. I used single rings earlier in testing and did notice elongation on the ridge but not at the guy out. I string my tarps "TIGHT" and I mean "TIGHT" as they should be.

Just for clarification, you said the new colors are not yet listed on the site, but in your original post you mentioned that the new tarps were lighter and at lower prices than the previous versions. So my question is, does the current website reflect the new price or the old price? For instance, how much would the beauty you've featured here run us?

sr1355
02-13-2015, 19:05
Website is current, we added 4 additional colors and prices reflected changes to tarps as of Jan 1, 2015 The tarp shown is olive yellow and is available by special request at this time. No additional cost... We have a MAJOR update coming on the website and any work I personally do to the website current would be redundant with the release of the new site and domain.

The new cat cuts look fantastic and are crazy shallow resulting in minimal loss of coverage. Getting the mathematics correct and having the templates professionally made was well worth the effort.

Charcoal Grey 20d H11WB
Olive Brown 20d H11WB
Coyote Brown 20d H11WB

Finished a MultiCAM WD12 today and two H11WD in Foliage Green 20d but they will be shipped out tomorrow and it's just too darn cold today for pics. I actually had one all set up but the camera froze up in the few minutes it took to set it up... GRRRR....

Paul, am I correct in assuming you do any of RBTR's sil colors? Are you doing just the silnylon line or are you doing the SilPoly (2nd gen) also? I am going to be doing a thru of the LSHT during hunting season and want to get a WD in Blaze if possible. Is this an option?

We are not currently using any SilPoly, we do have some in the shop and will be doing some testing as well as a few demo tarps to test out in the field. We can use any color available at RBTR and it can be ordered by requesting the color in the notes with you order if we do not have it as an option on our website. These are subject to availability at RBTR...

I'm assuming the bound ridgeline will still need to be sealed?

sr1355
02-23-2015, 19:38
I'm assuming the bound ridgeline will still need to be sealed?

Not with proper setup, most of the issues with this type of ridge are due to ridge line being ran under the tarp. As you see we have the ridge line installed over the tarp which forces the ridge of the tarp to be at the highest point. Running the ridge line under the tarp can allow you to pull the tarp off center and have the actual tarp ridge lower than the ridge line. This allows water to pond against the tarp ridge and eventually wick in through the stitching. A split ridge line will works just as well....

Thanks. That's very helpful. Are these made to order, and if so, what's the turn around time?

Flynguy521
02-23-2015, 20:21
Yes they are made to order. They have about a 5-6 week lead time right now per their website (http://www.undergroundquilts.com/status/default.html). The longer you wait the longer it'll take because so many people are realizing the value and quality that comes from UGQ. Paul, Missy, and crew are awesome to work with!

I am really drawn to the Olive Yellow, I see a lot of other members share my opinion. I bought a couple of yards to play with, I am surprised at how well it works here in Oregon with our Spring weather in the middle of Winter. Trees are leafing out and everything is full of moisture and bright green, the olive yellow blends in better than expected IMHO. I also put it with some of my other Silnylon stash and was surprised at how well some of the muted tones worked with it. This simple clean lined tarp is just great especially in this color.

I agree. Best looking tarp I have seen! I'm hoping this will be bright enough during hunting season. I love orange, but it seems to really overload the eyes as a tarp. I know that is what you want during hunting season, but i hope the olive yellow will fill both roles... blending in during spring and sticking out in the fall.

On the Ridge we would need to moodify the seam construction to a flat feld and it WILL need seam sealing. On the 4 corners they are included as part of the END POLE mod.

My new UGQ Hanger 11WB in multicam arrived today.
Can't really say I'm bothered by the black edge.

Looks like a very nice hang location and a great hammock/tarp combination...

Will digital cammo tarps be offered at some point?

However, the multicam looks promising. Does anyone have a shot looking at the fabric, close up and at a distance? ^^^ That shot does look stealthy!

No current plans for digicam, hard finding suitable light weight fabrics for tarps without ordering 1000+yards at a time. You can quickly tie up thousands in a fabric...

Understandable.

By the way, I'm happy that your business has expanded through the years. I remember when you were just a poster with a website. Look at you now. My UGQ is sweet, it just works! Cheers!

Here is the custom color option that I decided to go with. It matches my purple hammock from Dutch.

I was thinking of getting a hanger 11 in SilPoly but wasn't sure if 11 foot was adequate for an 11 foot dutchware hammock with ridgeline. Also I see the option for cat cut but not sure if SilPoly needs a cat cut or if cat cut is lighter than a square cut?

11' will provide coverage on an 11' hammock, roughly 6-8" on each end. Most go with a 12' tarp for 11' hammock but the 11' tarp will provide min coverage. We still use a cat cut on Silpoly, very shallow to provide for max coverage while still providing for a tight pitch.

Thank your for the quick response.
