So fellow hammock hangers, I've got a question for you:

What kind of knot is tied in the long end suspension of UGQ Zeppelin Underquilts?

I need to re-tie a knot and haven't been able to reverse-engineer the knot.

TIA!

A Zeppelin Bend

If you're talking about one of the stopper knots I believe its a barrel knot (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VoFD0-Yqr00).

It's not a Zeppelin bend since only one piece of shock cording is involved.

The barrel knot looks right except that there's a loop on one end that the clip is attached to.

If it needs a loop, how about a figure 8 on a bight (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z3XhyCBSu6Q)?

That might work and you can email UGQ and they might name their knot for you if you need the exact knot they used. Great knot videos Red.

Thanks, but those are not my knot videos :D just borrowed them from youtube.

I've emailed Paul before about other things and may end up doing that here as well.

I was just interested if anyone on here might be able to identify the knot and expand the knowledge of other interested people here on HF. :-)

I don't know this underquilt but it sounds like what I have seen used for similar applications. On the animated knots boating page it is called a halyard hitch.

A good clear close up photo of the knot would allow those that don't have a UGQ to help identify it.

If it's a single line end we use a barrel knot, for double line end it's a simple overhand knot, for the middle loop on primary suspension it is again a simple overhand knot leaving a loop for attaching biner to. Tried to avoid fancy complicated knots...

Here's a photo of the knot I'm trying to duplicate:

Maybe a barrel knot with a bight left in it?

If your knot is like a noose and will tighten like a noose then it is a scaffold knot. If the loop is fixed and will not tighten down to the hardware then it could be a double over hand knot tied in a BIGHT. Your knot has 3 wraps and a double over hand knot has 4 wraps.

WINNER WINER CHICKEN DINNER... That is old suspension setup. We are going to be offering a replacement kit soon to eliminate all those pesky mitten hooks...
