Lots and lots of discussions lately about how to hang from different things...."what do you do when there are no trees?" To many of these threads talk about going to ground.

First off lets make sure everyone knows the Rules:

The first rule of Hammock Club is: You do not go to ground.
The second rule of Hammock Club is: YOU DO NOT GO TO GROUND!
The third rule of Hammock Club is: Someone yells stop, goes limp, taps out, it's nap time.
The forth rule: Only one hammock to a set of trees.
Fifth rule: One hammock at a time fellas.
Sixth rule: No sharp objects or shoes in the hammock
Seventh rule: Naps will go on as long as they have to.
Eighth and final rule: If this is your first night at Hammock Club....You have to nap.

Now that we all know the rules lets see some photos of how everyone does not go to ground.

To start things off here are a few photos from Me, Te-Wa, Dejoha and MuseJr's trip into the grand canyon a few years ago.

Full TR here: https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/showthread.php/69339-Grand-Canyon-Hammocks-in-the-Desert

Due to the sensitive desert environment of the canyon you're not allowed to hang from trees for fear that damage that won't heal could be done. Because of this we had to set up and hang from some of the structures.

So lets see some photos from spots you have hung at without trees. Could be structures or vehicles or stands but lets see some creative hang options that have kept you up off the ground. Cause you should all know, I pee on the ground. :shades:

Turtle Dog stands work and fit very nicely on a tent pad. The park staff said we had to set up over the tent pads but when the Park ranger was asked, he said he did not care. We wanted to test the stands anyway.

Is there already a thread about this type of indoor setup??

I may be trying to do something similar soon.

Here are two variations of my stand stand in use. One as a single end with a tree and the other in a field with not a tree to be found.

Is there a limit to the number of entries? Here is one using a tensegrity stand a camporee. I have one of when I setup in a cattle loading shoot somewhere, if I can find it.

I've been thinking about this a little even though I'm probably not going to run into a treeless situation. In canyon/boulderie type situations I would think one could use rock climbing equipment to make anchors in the rock. I'm not a rock climber but I've seen them put the expandable anchors in crevices and they seem to hold good. Still probably tricky finding the right spot. If hiking in canyon country I think it would be worth looking into.

Just a few, some indoors. I work as a stagehand, and hammocks are great for quick naps.

Few years ago working at a festival, using a gazebo as a tarp here:

Hmmm....I have to dig around and find some photos. First one was between a big poplar and the roll bar on a garden tractor. We put a ratchet strap around the tree so we could hang two hammocks in parallel.

Next was the bomb shelter I hung in for a nap while deployed. Those giant jersey barriers have big loops of rebar on the tops so they can be moved with a crane. Across the corner between a pair made a nice hanging spot in the shade.

Lastly...A set of camo netting poles I found in the junk pile made a nice indoor stand. I didn't have enough to make two tripods and a top pole. Luckily jamming pole between two opposing walls and supporting it between a pair of bipods worked very well.

Really good examples of not going to ground.

If you all did not see a little after posting this I set up a photo contest in the AHE section/Facebook/Twitter/Google+ Details here: http://www.arrowhead-equipment.com/whats-happening-now-at-ahe/you-do-not-go-to-ground-photo-contest

Hanging from the 6x6 poles in my back yard. Improvised with 3 poles sunk into the ground in a triangle so we can hang three hammocks.

Where ever I go I take my stand. The indoor shots are in a hotel last summer while I was on the road for work.

6th rule of Hammock Club

This was taken during a load in, you're not supposed to take off your steel toes while in the theater during a load in even during breaks. Also, it was a trek lite the hammock that got me hanging 4 years ago.
