There is a group of 6 or us planning to travel into the cold north - pfft.
yeah we are are planning a 5-6 day trip to norway to including a weekend+a few weekdays as most cant get enough time off.
what we are hoping to do is
spend 1/2 day travelling from the UK to norway and getting to the set-off destination+hiring any kit we may need (so max 3-4 hours from an available airport)
spend 3 days/nights canoe/hiking and camping out (hammocks) with open fires (if possible)
ideally the location would have the option of a suitable body of water(lake)/easy river to canoe at (we would want to rent canadian style open canoes for this- is this possible?)
the option of some scenic walks and if possible an acheivable peak
one of the other wishes would be at a site we could possibly view the northern lights.
we would want to spend the final day being tourists(shopping)- traditional craft style- and enjoying hot tubs or and local food.

can you help with suggestions?
we are also fairly limited by funds so will not be looking at being too extravigant

many thanks

Not sure if you'll be able to check all the boxes on your list here.... I'm afraid Norway is a little bit bigger than that.
The terrain varies a lot, forests and flat in the south and southeast, fjords and steep mountains in the west, wild mountains and beautiful coast from the middle and north a ways and highland/ treeless plains in the extreme north.

Northen lights are only visable up north and only outside summer (midnight sun). You should be ok in late august/ september, but it's much better a few months later.
Treelimit is generally around 800 m.a.s in the southern part of the country. Most places where you can rent a canoe is situated lower, so to get to a peak you will have to hike some elevation. Depending on how fit, able or willing you are there are many options.

Bonfires are generally not allowed in Norway between 15. April and 15. September.
I've never heard of anywhere that offers hammocks or camping/ cooking kits rental ("+hiring any kit we may need")
Souvenir shopping is not common outside the usual places; airports, some souveir shops in Oslo or typical tourist places/ ports. Hand craft is most commonly offered by indiginous Sami's near some mountain passes in southern Norway or north from about the arctic circle (https://www.google.no/maps/place/Polarsirkelen/@64.0322251,16.9536793,5z/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x46760302f64aad71:0xfcfad7ec2d73e ea2).

There are at least a couple of places close by OSL international airport (https://www.google.no/maps/place/Oslo+Airport/@60.0820554,10.9368939,10z/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x4641838b248a1cbf:0xcca0add4a7eb5 b82) that offer canoe rental;

- Oslo's north forest (https://www.google.no/maps/search/Nordmarka,+oslo/@60.0234492,10.8874267,10z) (covering some 60x60km) has forest, water and a few hilltops. Everything between the roads E16 and #4 is Oslo's north forest. About an hour from the airport to the forest. Canoe rental from one of the cabins in the forest (http://www.aktivioslo.no/kanoutleie-og-kajakkutleie-i-oslomarka/) (may be outside season, so check).

- Fjorda area (https://www.google.no/maps/place/Fjorda,+Gran/@60.4467311,10.2622955,12z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m2!3m1!1s0x4641b37469c897fd:0x454ed 73629234693). Just spent the weekend there with a group from Fjellforum.no.
Large water system with lots of small islands and varied forest all around. ABout 1,5hours from OSL
You can buy a bonfire permit when you pick up the canoes (be sure to book ahead as they are very popular (canoes) Vestland canoe rental (http://www.vestland-kanoutleie.no/)

&homas - thankyou for the superb information

we are currently pinning down final dates - some maybe will end up coming after the 15th september
by souveneers - i really meant traditional crafts ratehr than the cliched niknaks.
one of the spots that caught my eye was the Hardangervidda National Park

the fjorda area seems a great candidate though so i will show my fellow travellers.
#Thanks once again.

No worries, mate.

There aren't many trees on the Hardangervidda plateu (where the WWII heavy water sabotage mission, Grouse, was prepared) other than mountian birch, but they barely support the weight of a proper grouse.
Also, expect down toward freezing at night and maybe snow in the mountains mid september.

Good luck and hope you have a good trip !

I thought I Would post an Update to this - as i have been fairly quiet up till now due to other commitments.

Trip is ON.
We are departing the UK for Norway - 4th September till the 9th september.

we are going a little bit easy on this trip using it as a pre trip for a longer one next year (funds available :D)

Were Getting to OSLO (Gard) @ 11.30 at night and picking up a rental car
Driving from Oslo to Femund Canoe Camp , which is 257km from the airport -6-7 hours away.
the FCC is
Femundveien 722, Sorken
N-2443 Drevsjų
Norway

http://www.femundcanoecamp.com/find-us/ --google map :D

on arrival we are renting a 3 man canadian canoe for a 4 day canoe trip .

so driving will be interesting as none of us have been to Norway as well as sorting all our trip food/fuel when we arrive./

If anyone has sensible places/names of the supermarkets/shops to buy food OR anything really worth checking out along the route then please post below¬!
