I have been wanting to make a zhammock for a while. I have the 1. oz ripstop ready to go, but was wondering if the two pieces would hold my 270 lb body. I have used a single piece of 1.9 oz ripstop and it has worked well. I have some slightly heavier fabric that I could use, but I want to keep my pack as light as I can.

I would think that 2 layers or 1.1 oz would be as strong, if not stronger, than the 1.9oz you have been using. You could always use a 1.9oz for the innner layer and the 1.1ox for the outer.

i haven't made a double layer hammock, but i agree w/ headchange.
i did make a single layer hammock out of some $1.00 fabric that was about 1.1oz. i really liked it for a month or two... until it tore:o
but i would think two layers would do the job. ...tim
