I received a new top quilt from LocoLibre this past Friday and I couldn't be anymore pleased.
George did an excellent job on it. I compared it to a HG and EE and it is at the very least on par with them. the stitching is flawless, it lofted in no time and I really appreciate George being willing to purchase a fabric not in his normal inventory to accommodate my wants and wishes and the icing on the cake is a slight weight savings.

I can without reservation recommend LocoLibre Gear.

thanks George, I appreciate your effort and cant wait for fall and winter to run her through her paces.

I agree, I have done business with George for quite awhile, an illustration of the quality of fella he is, back in our bad hurricane season, the season of 3 back to back canes, after the first I got an email from George checking on my and my families safety and he did so more than once. at that time I don't think I had placed but one order and I never made huge orders. to me that is a class act.

George, as good as it looks on FaceBook it still doesn't do it justice.:)

Hey old creek.
Great looking TQ. Really like that orange color. Thinking that my next TQ will get made with the orange. I'm in my sixties, and having the orange as a potential signaling devise is appealing to me. If there ever came a time when I needed someone to be able to find me, that TQ turned inside out and draped over me, or a ridge line might help in getting located faster than without.
Was the orange the custom order fabric?

Hi boatstall! I have the orange argon in stock. I didn't have forest green so I got some argon 67 for that. I carry just bout every color of the argon 90 on hand, but only the black 67.

I CANNOT WAIT to get my custom UQ. George has already been so amazing to work with, even with my constant emails adding or changing my thoughts.

Question for you old creek. Was wondering about your decision to get the 0 degree.
I keep thinking that the 20 series might be enough, but every time I see someone from a similar temperature zone to Louisiana getting a 0, I have second thoughts. Was wondering if you travel a lot to colder zones, and have a true need for the 0, or are you finding or needing, the 0 to work through Florida winters? Trying to decide on a winter TQ myself, and it sounds like this wasn't your first TQ.
Care to share any advise? Would appreciate any wisdom you would throw my way.

take any advice from me with a grain of salt, I am still pretty green when it comes to these quilts.
first, from your first post, I chose the orange for the same reason you mention, I don't have to tell you that in back waters someone quiet could walk within 40 yards of you and you would never see them.
as for the 0* rating it is multi fold. I am a cold sleeper and don't like to wear clothes to bed, I will when needed but prefer boxer briefs and no shirt, I have a pretty decent big agnes bag rated to zero and I found even with a base layer it would only keep me warm down to around 30 even with 2 or 3 pads under me until I bought an XTherm, that thing will burn you up unless its near freezing.
I have not traveled much in the past but I have 2 grandsons who share my passion for the river bottoms and pine flats, and the little bit of hardwoods we have left around here so I plan on taking the oldest on some trips now. we are heading to the Roan Highlands in October and hope to be back in that area in November and we have a short trip planned for February. in short the 0* rating is cheap insurance, being in florida I only deal with 2 seasons locally, summer and winter, our falls are usually quite warm and I cant remember good spring weather. most of the year I use a cheap fleece bag liner zipped to the knees, I have two weights to choose from. I don't camp much in the summer but when I do I use a cheap cotton sheet that my wife sewed into a sleeping bag. everyone is different but I can use my 0* under quilt up to around 72, 73 degrees by fully venting any warmer than that I don't use an under quilt I just use a fleece bag liner to sleep in if needed. I tried to sleep under the 20* burrow I just bought off of the forum for my grandson last night with the room temp at 73, I was able to stay under it for about a half hour before folding it down to the waist and maybe another hour before I threw it over the ridgeline and got my bag liner. I had the EE under quilt ( 0* ) fully vented and was never sweaty or uncomfortable. I have had that same under quilt down to the mid 20's and never even knew it was cold until I had to get out to pee so it is pretty versatile for me but a warmer sleeper may not get that same range out of it. hope something in these ramblings is of some help.

Helpful ramblings indeed.
I agree, going with the 0 rated insulation as insurance, trumps the slight weight and space additions.
Can't wait for that experience of not knowing how cold it is, until getting out from under good quilts.
My past experience with ratings on sleeping bags has me most likely overbuying on quilts, but I will gladly vent when warm, to have warmth when cold.

Thanks

I can't speak highly enough of George and Loco Libre. He's a great vendor to deal with.

space was the bigger issue for me out of the two because my lightest winter bag weighs 44 oz and I had changed to a lighter and smaller pack and I have to carry gear for the grandsons. in that mid 20's I mentioned I was using a Big Agnes down storm king, it makes a good top quilt and packs well and if you can get one on the cheap I would highly recommend it but I wouldn't spend much over 50 bucks on it if you are sure you will end up with a top quilt anytime soon. I bought 2 of them several years ago off of gear trade for just over a hundred bucks each. they were offered by BackCountry, if you are out to save some money for the time being you might check gear trade to see what BackCountry has offered and then call them directly to see if they will fudge. I called them with questions before buying and the young guy who answered the phone knew exactly which bags I was talking about and described them to a T. I considered making a top quilt from mine but I don't have the skill for that kind of project and paying someone to do it would have eaten up the savings.

Thanks for the tip about the Storm King bag. I will be ordering my TQ hopefully within the next couple of weeks, but like you, I am also about to gear up my Grandson.
He's 11 and fortunately can carry his own gear. My new WBRR, 0 Lynx UQ, and Spindrift arrive tomorrow. Can't buy him that same level of gear without confirming that his desire to hang is sufficient to warrant it. Thinking of how I can also rig him up, and that Big Agnes bag is an excellent suggestion. I'm already afraid that I am going to lose the WBRR, as my wife has really been getting interested in hanging as well. He and I may both be sporting one temporarily if my bride likes the RR.
Thanks creek.

Thank you very much!

Wow! What a great looking quilt! I am in the market for a top quilt and am glad I came here and looked around. Funny thing is after poking around the site I noticed that you are about 15 minutes from where I live; that's crazy!
