View Full Version : For Sale Questions and Answers
1) Who can post in the FS section? Any member of Hammock Forums (HF) with more than 50 posts who has subscribed to the FS Group.
2) How do I subscribe to the FS Group? Go here (Hammock Forum "For Sale" forum guidelines (https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/content.php/159-Hammock-Forum-For-Sale-forum-guidelines)) and follow the instructions. You will have immediate access.
3) Why do I need 50 posts before using the FS section? The HF members want to get to know you and we would like to ensure you are contributing rather than using HF as just a place to sell items.
4) How do I set up payment? That is between the buyer and seller but most payment takes place for items via PayPal.
5) Why can’t I use the PayPal Friends and Family/Gift option? Because it is against the terms of service of PayPal and HF will not support the use of a feature which does not comply with PayPal terms of service. It is also against the HF Terms of Service (TOS). You will have no recourse for reimbursement if you use Friends and Family/Gift for payment.
6) Do I have to include shipping in the purchase price? No but you will find it helpful to your sale if you do because most buyer just want to know the bottom line.
7) How do I calculate shipping price when I don’t know the buyer location? Easiest way is to use USPS Flat Rate box or envelope. That way you have tracking data and you will have insurance on the item. If your item won’t fit in a flat rate box then you have choices. One is to box the item up and pick a destination to guesstimate the shipping costs or to post it as + actual shipping costs.
8) Why can’t I post more than 3 items per post? The thread becomes long and difficult to determine what is sold, what is left, and what the current price is. It is also very difficult to moderate when the thread goes on for days.
9) Can I post more than 1 thread with 3 items in each? No. You may only have 1 For Sale thread active with 3 items in it at any given time. If you open a 2nd message with FS items before you close the 1st message and move it, both of your threads will be deleted.
10) Why do I have to close and move my own thread? The seller knows better than anyone when they are finished selling items so rather than a MOD asking “are you done yet?” you can determine when you are finished.
11) Why do I have to move the thread? Because if you do not, the FS area becomes very difficult for buyers to navigate and it impacts everyone’s ability to find items to purchase.
12) Why when I comment on someone else’s FS thread do the MODs remove it? The MODS will remove any comments that are not related to “I’ll take it” or asking/answering a question because they are disruptive to the flow of the sale. Also if praise of a product is allowed then we would also need to allow negative comments. HF prefers that buyers/sellers do their own research rather than allowing for comments from individuals not involved in the sale of the product.
13) Is HF responsible if my item is not received? Simple answer is No. If you used PayPal then you can utilize their services for disputes. If you did not use PayPal then you are on your own. If you have tried to work with the seller and cannot find agreement, you can report the issue to a MOD (be sure to include a link to the thread and a copy of PM’s). While a MOD can do nothing to get your funds returned or the item replaced, if the infraction is severe enough or repeating, a member can and will be removed from the Market Place.
14) When I have two FS threads posted, why don't the MODS just remove one of them instead of both. Because the MODS have no clue which thread you would like to have removed. By removing them both it allows the OP to determine which thread they want to have posted in FS or if they want to combine up the two/three threads into one thread assuming they do not exceed the 3 item per thread rule.
15) Why does a Mod keep asking me if my item is still available when I have clearly not closed/moved or said the item is sold in the thread? A) Many times an individual will sell the item on another location but forget to close the thread on HF. The Mods will "ping" the seller every week or so to ensure the items in the FS section are current. If you don't want this to happen, then bump your thread ever week or so to let others know you are watching for a buyer to post.
16) Why can each member only have one FS post at a time, and why are they limited to 3 items? A) Because we had a group of professional ebays/crageslist/yardsellers posting general camping gear yardsales every day. The work load on the mod team to keep that forum cleans up was burning us out. We don't volunteer our time to play ebay employee with no pay. First and foremost this forum is about discussions on hammocks and hammock accessories and not a general used camping supply outlet.
17)Q: Who is responsible for ensuring the "I'll take it" in the FS thread
A: The purchaser is responsible for posting but the seller has ultimate responsibility for not selling the item to a member of HF until the "I'll take it." is posted in the thread. The seller should always check the thread to be sure the seller has properly claimed the item just in case the claim is not made or another member has a previous claim.
18) Q: My Tapatalk won't let me open a thread in FS what's up with that?
A) Tapatalk will not allow the 50 post guideline to be enforced for opening new threads so, the FS section is set to specifically exclude users opening threads with Tapatalk. You will need to use a web browser to start a new thread.
19) Q) I used to be able to edit my thread to change the prices and/or items. I can no longer edit it. Why?
A) Hammock Forums is set up to allow the OP to change their thread for the first 72 hours. After that it requires a moderator to make changes. This is a global setting and history has shown that some users will return after an extended time frame to delete their posts. This leaves big holes in conversation which is not good when a member is trying to research an item. For the FS thread you can summarize your items and prices that are left or, if there is an error in your original post, you can contact a moderator to help you.
20) If I post a set with multiple items in it can I later split it up?
A) That depends on a couple of things. If you have more than 3 items in your set then no as the set has more than the 3 items allowed in the guidelines. If you have 2 items in your set then yes you can if you wish. But, if you wish to split a set up it is in the seller's best interest most times to re post the items with individual prices so as to cover the shipping on each.
21) Q: Per PM conversation the purchaser made me an offer I would like to accept. Do I lower the price or how do I handle the I'll take it?
A: Just have the purchaser post "I'll take it per PM conversation". That way the seller has met their I'll take it obligation and no one needs to know exactly what the offer was.
21) How do I get a question answered that is not covered above?
A: Post it in this thread.

Did you join the sellers group?
To be able to post items for sale in our For Sale forum you will need to join the "Sellers Group". Once you in the "Sellers Group" you can create a new thread. You can also Open, Close or move your thread at any time. See the step by step instructions bellow on how to create, edit, change prefix's and move your thread. See the guidelines of what you are allowed to sell below under Guidelines.
1. First you must join the "Sellers Group".
A. To join the "Sellers Usergroup" group you need to click on SETTINGS in the top right of the screen.
B. Scroll down and the left side of the screen until you see PERMISSION GROUPS and click on it.
C. Put a mark in the box to the right of "Sellers Usergroup".
D. Now click on the Join Group in the bottom left.
E. Now you should be all set to use this group.

Yes, I did. I can post in the new forum and few them just fine. I just don't see any new posts when I click the new posts tab to see all newest postings like before
If you have read the posts then there will be no new posts to read until another post has been made without you viewing it.

There is only 4 items for sale right now. If' you have viewed them then you will not see another in the new posts until one is posted. Does that help.

What is the rationale for disallowing selling of tents and electronics here? Seems both can represent outdoor gear.

What is the rationale for disallowing selling of tents and electronics here? Seems both can represent outdoor gear.
This pretty much got discussed to death when Attroll made the announcement that we were going to set up a new FS section so I am not going to start another debate about it now. What was agreed to is we are doing it this way now and will review it in 90 days or so. Just to recap for those who did not see it.
Major goal of all the changes
1) Reduce the work on the moderators who have to read every post, every day
2) Focus Hammock Forums on hammocks. There are lots of other places you can sell your ground dwelling and general camping gear. This forum is all about hammocks and not outdoor gear.
3) Hammock Forums was never meant to be a Market Place but rather an information location for hammocks. So if there is going to be a market place, it too needs to be focused on hammocks.
If you have additional questions about the mechanics of the new area please do feel free to post them but at this time, the items that can be sold and the quantity of posts/items are not up for discussion.
I can assure you the topic will come up again after this area has been open for a period of time to see what adjustments still need to made and if the users can manage the administration of the own threads. Assuming the other changes have the desired results of decreasing workload, then the mods/admins have all indicated they are willing to looking at the potential of going back to outdoor related gear. You notice I did not say it would happen, only that it will be reinvestigated :)

You are correct, the list is not all inclusive but if use the item to set up your hammock then I am not thinking any of us will remove it. Many times sleeping bags are used as TQ or even UQ.

We are working on this issue. The forum software is limiting us to the 3 day edit thingy. Rick is working on it. In the mean time if you need anything changed feel free to ask a mod.

A question for mods/admins:
Is it no longer required to put a prefix (FS, FT, etc.) on for sale threads? I see some with, and some without. It's not the end of the world, but it is more difficult to notice what threads are sale threads, when looking via the "New Posts" tab.

The new FS forum did not enforce thread prefixes. I've made this a requirement and moving forward it will be a requirement.

Can HF members sell their hammock-related DIY skills/services for a custom item?
I mean, as opposed to building a hammock, and then selling that hammock.
Example - "FS: 11' GE Hammock - Your Color Choice"
Or "FS: Hammock DIY Skills"

My answer to that is no. What you have done is pretty much jumped across the line to being a vendor so you would need to be guided by the vendor section of the TOS which states you can not sell your items in the FS section.
In fact to take the answer one step further, if you make up the items and sell them in the FS section you will be asked to become a vendor if you do it more than once or twice. That is not to say you can not make a stove, sell it, ...then make a hammock, sell it, then make a tarp, sell it. That does not raise a red flag. We all assume you are in the learning phase and leave it a that. But, if you sell a stove this week, and again next week, and then again the following week even us simple minded MODS will catch on pretty quickly that you are running a small time business of some sort.

That is correct. It is pretty easy to become a vender here.
Basicly you become a donating member and start a free facebook page to take orders and talk about your services. Maybe show some pictures of your work.
This is how most small shops get started here. If it takes off go for a real website.
The how to's are all in the TOS.

Good question came in today which I thought would be nice to have the answer here.
Q) When I have two FS threads posted, why don't the MODS just remove one of them instead of both.
A) Because the MODS have no clue which thread you would like to have removed. By removing them both it allows the OP to determine which thread they want to have posted in FS or if they want to combine up the two/three threads into one thread assuming they do not exceed the 3 item per thread rule.

Another excellent question came in to me today via PM so I thought I would post the Q&A here
Q) Why do I have to close my thread once I receive the funds rather than waiting for the purchaser to receive the item?
There are multiple reasons behind having the seller close/move the thread once funds have been received:
a) The MODS and community will not continue to follow your thread so it reduces traffic in the FS area
b) Once the seller closes and moves the thread he/she can open another thread to sell something else if they choose to but until it is close/moved you are prohibited from any further FS postings
c) Any issues you might have after the sale can be addressed with the purchaser. There is no need for the rest of HF to know when the package is received and what condition it is in. The FS area is meant to allow you to find a buyer and has no impact on how the sale goes so there is no need to keep the thread open.

About a week ago, we had a member selling knock-offs of the Loop Aliens in the For Sale subforum (https://hammockforums.net/forum/showthread.php/122245-loop-alien-knock-offs-fleece-pants). Even said so in the thread title. Is this something that is allowed? IMHO, our cottage industries are the life blood of this forum, and to see someone purposely selling clones of patented ideas from our cottage industries made my blood boil.

Hi lilricky,
As the TOS is written there are no rules against it.
The management did discuss this topic in the mod forum and for now we felt trying to be copyright police is a bit much for the mod team.
I know that was not the answer you wanted but if it helps it made my blood boil as well.

There is a different climate here, now, than the time in which lilricky is recalling. In that time the collective community would have not stood for it. I'm not sure why that isn't the case now. Perhaps a nudge in the right direction by those that hold the keys to the shop would help.

Yes, PM's between members of HF are not limited. But, even if you agree via PM, you must post I'll take it in the thread. If someone posts I'll take it before you do, then they would be entitled to the item.

Considering the new rules on commentary, would/could you be so inclined to allow a wee bit of leeway for others to chime in to call a spade a spade? I'm assuming probably not, but thought I'd ask. I guess that could be done through a new thread not in the FS forum? However detached that might me, it might raise enough concern to get the wanted effect.

That is what the PM system is for.
Are we assuming seller pays PayPal fees unless otherwise stated? I haven't bought anything in a while but this was the consensus back in the day. Had to answer this question a number of times recently so am going to post here.
How do I bump my thread?
Type any text into the thread such as "bumping to top" or "still available" or even note a price decrease. Anything the OP input into the thread will bump the thread up and show that they are still interested in selling.

Interesting question came up today so am posting so we all have the same answer.
Q: Who is responsible for ensuring the "I'll take it" in the FS thread
A: The purchaser is responsible for posting but the seller has ultimate responsibility for not selling the item to a member of HF until the "I'll take it." is posted in the thread. The seller should always check the thread to be sure the seller has properly claimed the item just in case the claim is not made or another member has a previous claim.

Question for you:
1) Can you start a new thread with Tapatalk? You should NOT be able to
2) Can you post on an existing thread? You should be able to do that.

I can start new threads and post on existing ones . The only place I can not post a new thread to is the FS forum. However I can start one from the "desktop".

Then all is working as it should. The start new thread function has been disabled in the FS area of Hammock Forums. Tapatalk has no way to enforce the 50 post rule.
But just to make sure...you can use Tapatalk to post on a thread in FS correct?

Edited the Q&A to reflect the information about Tapatalk.
Hello Mods,
I know I've read it somewhere but can't seem to locate it anymore. Being listed as a vendor, can you post gear for sale in the marketplace, being as the gear offered is not made by my company? This is personal gear I've had sitting around and need it to find a new home, by order of the boss (my wife).
Thank you for your time.

If it is personal only gear that you do not sell on your site, then yes you may list it in the FS area. Just please make sure you read and understand the FS guidelines before you post.

Two potential buyers reply to a thread with an 'I'll take it" or one with "I'll take it" and second with "I'll take it if XXX doesn't"...
The seller responds in the thread acknowledging the first "I'll take it" and them PM's payment info to the buyer.
What's time frame the seller should extend to the buyer for response/payment before moving on to the back-up buyer?

Kroma is 100% correct
Quote from the guidelines:
12. Once an "I'll take it" has been posted, the buyer has 48 hours to submit payment to the seller. If funds aren't received in that time, the seller may take the next offer for purchase.

Folks,
Please take a few minutes to read the Q&A in the FS area. It seems we have a number of new folks posting and they are sort of missing this specific Q&A. You will save yourself a bunch of irritation and time if you take the time to read the guidelines and the Q&A before you post.
18) Q: My Tapatalk won't let me open a thread in FS nor can I complete the close/move actions required by the guidelines when using Tapatalk, what's up with that?
A) Tapatalk will not allow the 50 post guideline to be enforced for opening new threads so, the FS section is set to specifically exclude users opening threads with Tapatalk. You will need to use a web browser to start a new thread. Also, Tapatalk has issues with the close/move function required to use the FS section. You will need to use a web browser to close/move your thread when your sale is finished.
Thank you.
I'm confused because Tapatalk used to work for creating FS threads before. I've always been able to moderate my FS threads in Tapatalk. Here's a screenshot that shows the appropriate functions in Tapatalk. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170511/c413e921285939fdc441496920e8ef8a.jpg

HF has a requirement that the user be limited to not post in FS until they reach 50 posts. Browsers have that function to communicate with the forum software but Tapatalk does not. Rick spent many hours of time with the software folks from both companies to find the answer, the answer was "it can't be done".
You can do most functions with Tapatalk...only things that are limited are opening a thread and moving the thread. The issue with Tapatalk and the 50 post guideline is an old one...pre my days as moderator.

I understand the 50 thread limit issue. But the issue of moderating a thread in Tapatalk is a non issue. I've successfully closed and moved all of my FS threads within Tapatalk. The screenshot I posted shows the functions are there.

Another good question came in via PM to me today that I have answered over and over so thought I would capture it here.
Q) I used to be able to edit my thread to change the prices and/or items.

Jim,
Please follow the links (both of them) at the top of the FS section or follow them in my links. I do not see where you have joined the seller's group. Please be sure to review the guidelines carefully. If you have not bought or sold recently there have been a lot of changes. You may also want to review the Q&A and the Tips and Hints. They are both stickies at the top of the FS area.

There are more than one link to click. Can you be more specific?
If you are trying to get to "posting in the Forsale forum" or "joining and maintaining your thread" then yes I believe your taptalk is sending you to the wrong link.
Here are the direct links to the FS rules:

Although I don't know the specifics but if you only access the forum with TapTalk you will have issues with the For sale forum. Best to get on a real computer or switch to a web browser on your phone. hth

Would Tapatalk be too blame?I know it's been a couple of months but I wanted to follow up in case other users have this issue too.
Tapatalk did that to me this morning as well. I think it's because the links are clipped (contain the ellipses.) From the FS Forum Guidelines thread, the first link goes to this page (https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/showthread.php?t=159) - Blackbishop's Sack. The second link sends you to this page (https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/showthread.php/156) (Homemade Asym Tarp).
The correct links are:
FS Forum Rules (https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/content.php/159-Hammock-Forum-For-Sale-forum-guidelines)
Creating and Maintaining Your For Sale Thread (https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/content.php/156-Creating-and-maintaining-your-for-sale-thread)
It looks like the forum has different numbering systems for Threads and Announcements. Tapatalk gets confused and sends you to Thread #156 instead of Announcement #156. I'd imagine that any links directly to that feature (like the quicktips articles) would also not work properly on Tapatalk.
It took me too long to figure that out but I was glad to find out I wasn't crazy.

This question came in so I have edited the Q&A to incorporate it
20) If I post a set with multiple items in it can I later split it up?
A) That depends on a couple of things. If you have more than 3 items in your set then no as the set has more than the 3 items allowed in the guidelines. If you have 2 items in your set then yes you can if you wish. But, if you wish to split a set up it is in the seller's best interest most times to re post the items with individual prices so as to cover the shipping on each.

Actually it is covered by the guidelines:
Excluded (cannot be sold on HF)
a) Fire arms, ammunition, or holsters for same
b) Fishing, skiing, pulks, or any other sporting gear
c) Electronic gear – if it requires power or batteries it cannot be sold on HF
d) Automatic knives, butterfly knives and swords
While we understand that a sewing machine is used by many of our DIY members so are GPS, flashlights, cell phones...etc..etc. There are lots of other places on the internet where electronic gear can be purchased and sold. Hammock Forums wishes to remained focused on hammocks and not the buying/selling.

I have answered this question at least a dozen times in the past month so I am going to add it to the Q&A
Q) My post has been open for more than 3 days but I can no longer edit it. Why
A) The editing of posts is a forum wide setting. In the past we had folks come in and edit their old posts which really impacts the continuity of conversations so there is a forum wide 72 hours limit. But, if you PM a moderator with exactly what you want changed they will be happy to help or you can just do a recap of your post. Members are aware of the limit and will look further in the posts to see what you have to sell. You are also welcome to close your post and repost items which allows you to add in more items to replace those that were sold.

Three answers for you but you will need to determine which you want to do as you can't do both at one time :)
WTT is set up for trade only. Be sure to read the rules before you post as all communications except the personal data (addresses) must be done in the thread.
In the FS area you can select WT/FS. You can indicate you would like to trade for XX or you would be willing to sell for X...you must set an amount.
Or lastly you can just sell the item for X...you still must set an amount you want for the item.

So I make $20 donation to Hammock Forums but I can't post in For Sale Forum. What kind of benefit is that.
In order to be able to post in FS you must have a 50 post count. It has nothing to do with donating members. Below is a copy/paste from the first 3 items in the Q&A
1) Who can post in the FS section? Any member of Hammock Forums (HF) with more than 50 posts who has subscribed to the FS Group.
2) How do I subscribe to the FS Group? Go here (Hammock Forum "For Sale" forum guidelines) and follow the instructions. You will have immediate access.
3) Why do I need 50 posts before using the FS section? The HF members want to get to know you and we would like to ensure you are contributing rather than using HF as just a place to sell items.
Please advise....
What are the best practices when/if an item is offered for sale outside of HF? IE. on another forum or for local sale?

Sent from somewhere east of Montauk...If it is local I would ask to inspect it, meet in public and be safe. If online, I would say use paypal, and choose the option that guarantees that you will get your money back of it isnt right. (The one that does not say send to friend or family)
I should have been clearer.
I have an item I want to offer for sale here and simaltaneously list it on another forum. I would honor the first 'I'll take it' regardless of where it originates. But for full disclosure to members on both sites is there a suggested disclaimer of sorts that i should include in the post?

The general rule I've used when posting items for sale across multiple forums/platforms is stating in the for sale ad that item(s) being sold are "cross-posted"
dkurfiss
01-15-2019, 17:41
There is no "rule" but as suggested above I would be very clear that you have the item posted in multiple places and the first time stamp will get the item regardless of which place it comes from. You will need to also be very diligent about making sure the minute you sell it some place else, you come here and close/move your thread.
That would be my suggestions for keeping everything above board.
Thank you! Exactly the guidance I was going for.
Cheers and thanks!

Did it really help you? Are you receiving notifications on your email about new threads on the FS Group now? Who else has subscribed on the FS group and received notifications about it? I'm not talking about posts in topics, but about new topics on the forum.
I can’t understand, what is wrong? Why I don’t get those notifications?
I did it the way you wrote. Here is the video -

Please work with Attroll on your issue. Obviously none of us can assist you or we would have already.

I am sorry.
Maybe do you have other options? Attroll has not responded to my letters for 10 days.
But if he is sick, then I will wait else.

I haven't read all 14 pages and it seems your "one post with up to three items" answers it - but to be sure ... I want to sell a "main" item (like an UnderQuilt) and give the buyer the option of adding on some extras - like a pair of python straps. I'd just add them to the shipping of a larger item; that cost is already covered - especially if it is a flat rate box.
So the add-ons would be items for sale, but not independently for sale as they are only options to add with the main sale - if that makes any sense. Is it okay to bundle things like that an are the optional bundled items limited to 3 or only 2 as the main items would total three things mentioned.
Or ... while corresponding with the buyer of the main item, I could just mention that if she/he also wants to try some Python straps I can add them to the deal for $20 (usually $30 retail). In other words, in my For Sale post I could mention that I'll discuss add-ons in a PM.
Just want to play by the rules.

You can bundle as many items as you wish as long as they are all for one price but you can not list individual prices of the items. Why? Because you can bet people will be trying to purchase those individually priced items even if you tell them in the post they can't. It will derail your FS thread and make my job a pain trying to monitor and delete all the posts :)

I understand - so one last (for now) question. If I have two summer weight UQ's and say, "$50 for one or $90 for both." is that considered two items or one item?

two if you will sell each for 50.00 and give a discount if 2 are purchased
I'm just curious to know about how much US residents have to pay in import duties/custom fees from Brazil, apart from the expensive shipping cost.
Thanks

In the For Sale post of a recent item, the seller seemed to say it was against the rules to PM a counter offer. It seems to me the dynamcs of selling used gear is a negotiation. The seller things the gear is worth X, the buyer thinks it is worth Y, and sometimes they come to an agreement for price Z. I can understand not cluttering up the For Sale post with counter offers (item #4 in "rules"), but I wouldn't mind if someone PM'd me with a counter offer. First, considering their location, I might end up with the same amount in my pocket - selling for a lower that posted price - if the shipping cost are lower than expected (west coast location vs east coast location, etc.). Or I'd have the option to hold my original price but "sweeten the deal" by adding something else (stuff sack, whoopie slings, etc.).
My point is, only permitting buyers to respond to one posted price not only limits them but also limits the seller.
Maybe rule #4 doesn't preclude a PM counter offer and only restricts bartering in the public post. So the seller that said, essentially, "no PM counter offers", was just stating a personal preference.
I would not post OBO in the sale description; but I also would not be offended or put off if someone PM'd me with a counter offer.
Wondering why HF would restrict that - if they do?

This is Rule 4:
4. Items listed in the marketplace should be listed with a selling price. No auction-style posts, no bidding on items, or linking to auctions. No Or Best Offer (OBO) postings & no price offers to be made. However communications between members via PM is not limited with the understanding the first unqualified “I’ll take it” posted in thread is the winner.
So first off let me state that what you agree to in PM's is entirely up to you as long as the seller checks the thread to be sure no unqualified "I'll take it" has been posted. If it has been, then the "I'll take it" trumps all PM conversations.
The reason for this rule is based on history. There was a time on here when bidding wars would take place on items along with folks getting "butt hurt" when their offer was not accepted. This ate up a lot of moderators cycles and made for some really bad feelings between members.
Also you have to realize that many of the new members who purchase items do not take the time to actually read the rules, tip & hints, or Q&A. It really becomes an issue when there is bidding going on and they get left out. The moderators are the first place they engage.
So to answer your question, HF does not really care what you sell your items for or who you sell it to. What we do care about is ensuring the FS area is not eating up moderators time or causing bad feelings among the members. If you want to accept offers on your item via PM you can do so but you will not be permitted to advertise it in the thread. You must also sell to the first person to post "I'll take it" in the thread regardless of any PM conversation you may or may not have had.
Hope this helps explain why it is the way it is.

I totally agree with the first "I'll Take It" rule. I ran into complication selling some ham gear once where I was answering an "I'll take it pending the answer" first person when a second person "took it" before I could finish my reply to the first person. Everyone understanding that the first published, "I'll take it." wins eliminates a lot of refereeing.
So I now understand the person who said, "No PM counter offers" was stating personal preference, not "rules".
It would be nice if there was a "actual photo required at the time of listing" rule. Seems like there are a lot of postings stating, "I'll try and take photos in a few days" or a week.... or no notation at all and folks having to request photos. I'm sure I'm not the only one that would like to see the actual condition of any used item before considering a purchase (especially on bigger ticket items) and seems to make more sense for a person to be fully prepared to sell an item before posting. "Like new" or other such can be subjective.
Just a thought.

Good question came in my PM today that I will add to the Q&A
Q: Per PM conversation the purchaser made me an offer I would like to accept. Do I lower the price or how do I handle the I'll take it?
A: Just have the purchaser post "I'll take it per PM conversation". That way the seller has met their I'll take it obligation and no one needs to know exactly what the offer was.
I attempted to upload photos of a backpack I want to see but nothing happens when I click upload. I tried the photos test gallery and this time received a, "...admin will approve..." msg before the photo will be shown.
Are there restrictions or approval of photos prior to them being seen in the For Sale forum?

Gene,
You have a few steps to complete before you can post in the FS area. Please read these links and it should help. It appears your issue is not a photo issue but rather you have to join the Sellers group before you can post.
Check out these links:

Yep, I'm in the Sellers Group as far as I can tell 'cause I have the option to leave the group. I set the prefix, added a title, entered some text, and tried to upload - nothing. No error, just...nothing. I copied the photo from the original folder just in case it's a permission issue on my Win 10 box, changed the phone to size so it's only 83 KB.
Next I tried uploading to the Photo Gallery test area, just to, well, test. Right? :-) I get the message, "Your file(s) have been successfully uploaded and will appear as soon as a moderator has had time to review and approve them.

And that's all she wrote...
