View Full Version : CLOSED: NER Dynaglide group buy update
OK folks... I know everyone is getting antsy... I am too.
I talked to Luke Yesterday to add the 5th spool, yes thats right, 12,000' of dynaglide, to the order. He told me the order is supposed to ship this week. I dont have any tracking information or contact at NER.
I DO have the original CC receipt Luke sent me for the first 4 spools and supposed to be getting the receipt for the 5th spool sometime in the next day or two.
I am hoping it will only take me a day or two to get it all divied up, and then possibly another day to get it all shipped. I have had a couple offers to help and I may take advantage of that.
I have devised what I think is going to be the easiest way of counting this all out. I am going to stake out 100' between 2 stakes. 1 stake will have a pulley on it. What Im going to do is take the rope out to the pulley and then bring it back to the first stake. That will be 200'. Ill mark the line coming off the spool with a piece of tape to indicate 200'. I have made up a winder out of a 6" PVC cap that I have attached a barbed fitting into some threads I tapped into the center of the cap. Insert that into the trusty Dewalt Gear reduced drill..... I hope.
Once the tape makes it back to the first stake, I know I have 200'. For 400' Ill just repeat.
Thoughts?

No news yet. I WILL get some answers Monday.
I just checked what I need and was wondering could you increase it from 300 feet to 300 feet 6 inches? or would that mess things up? Just kidding thanks for all your work.

When I did the amsteel group buy 3 spools were right on and the 4th was 3 feet short. I don't know who got shorted and I bet they didn't measure it.

All I can do is wait and beg for everyones patience. I promise to get on it as soon as it arrives.

What If Im not dead on with my measurements?
I lost ten yards of Insultex due to 'overage' in 20 measurements! Everyone got about a half yard more than what they paid for...
Gotta build that in, I guess. You certainly don't want to short anyone!
- MacEntyre
If anybody else wants to back out (green preferably) I would like some of this rope.
Hey, Op! Unless a guy is an idiot (please don't ask my wife about that) everytime we use a length of line, we'll think, for just a second, that another fellow did us a favor putting the buy together. Pretty cool. Thanks.

I think overages and underages of a a few feet should be expected in an undertaking so large as this - patience should also be expected! God Bless you.

Kind of anti-climatic having to wait like this. The feverish pitch raised by the thread has waned. I'd hoped to make Whoopies and UCRs as stocking stuffers :(
Not your fault Opie ;)
Yep, still waiting. I started an update thread in the group buy forum.
It has to be anytime now. But judging by how they responded to PGibsons requests for information, Id say their customer service is lacking...
Im hoping anyday now, though.

It's a shame. Nowadays every customer counts, even the little guys. We weren't even the little guys in this instance. I'd be interested to know if these people understand or care how far reaching their poor CS really goes.
I don't know how many buyers are in this group buy but the whole forum is now fully aware of their business practices.
Silence is the greatest form of contempt - I have removed them from my bookmarks but they are earmarked for a "Stay away from them" if I'm asked my opinion of the company.

I agree. However... I dont want to jump to any conclusions. There could be many reasons why it takes 3 weeks to ship out 12,000 feet of rope. Perhaps they are resting on their laruels. A bad way of conducting business.
And I cant blame it on treestuff.com. All the orders Ive placed with them have shipped next day.
There are 55 buyers.... And its gettting awfully close to Christmas. I ended up having to buy some of the 150' hanks because things were backing up here with orders.
I thank everyone for their patience. I know this experience has already left a bad taste in my mouth....

My guess, and that's all it is, is that they don't make any given product every day, or even every week. Rather, when pending orders reach a certain threshhold, then they have a production run. I may be wrong, but inventories are expensive things to maintain.
That said, failure to respond to customer inquiries in a timely manner is inexcusable.

As a self-employed cabinetmaker, I can honestly say the greatest compliment I get most of the time is, "Thanks for calling" or "Thanks for letting us know that".
Consumers want to know they're valued, and when a business fails to provide EXCEPTIONAL customer service, they go elsewhere! It's that simple.
America is run by small businesses, and the ones that are successful are the ones that make the customer feel he/she is important....because they are!
My guess is this is a big order of this stuff and they didn't stock that much. So they have to order it andit may even have to be made. These days companies have cut thier inventories to the bare minimums.
Allright... I know everyone is chomping at the bit....

Dont feel bad Rug, I wont be far in front of you. I had to get a message from "the Sparrow" that I had not paid yet...:scared: .
No problem though. I suspect the people at "the bottom of the list" will only have to wait a day or so more. I know Opie is on top of it (I can just see him feverishly waking back in forth between his 50'-100' measuring stakes.)
Hmm now lets see, I think he said there was 12,000 feet. Divide that by 100 and you get a minimum of 120 trips back and forth across the yard. :scared:
Hope you got your good shoes on for your 2.27 miles of rope walkin! Dude, get some video of that, too funny. I say give the end of that rope to one of the kids and make them earn those christmas presents.

opie, when your line does 'finally' come in, see if you could use your local gym basketball court, for running out your measurements. You'll be indoors, and the floor already has measurements. Typical court dimensions. (http://www.basketball-court.com/images/dimensions.gif) Double check the measurements on the floor, just to be sure. 2cents.
Or a nice long school hallway would be convenient, too.

Yes... The first nite I was wondering why I had agreed to do this. Originally when I set this up it was nice outside. I had every intention of working outside where I could easily pull this out 100, 200' at a time.
The first nite I got 2 spools pulled out, 4800'. Thats over 1000 trips up and down the tape, 10' at a time. Im still paying for that nite.
Now Ive got something better set-up in the hallway using a pulley. Getting 25' at a time and I dont have to get up.
I should have all of it shipped out by the end of the week.
And Thank you.

WooHoo! Got mine yesterday!
That stuff is beautiful. I'm planning whoopie/UCR tarp ties, maybe tarp/hammock ridge lines, and prussik loops, to name a few things. I know the strength is overkill, but building whoopies with mason line is a pain in the you-know-what (probably only because of my aging eyes, though).
Thanks for doing this, Opie--I know that must have been some hard work.

Glad everyone is getting their line quickly.
Will this line cut into branches easily?
Seems like it may.
I am going to use mine for ridgeline and throw line ....over branches and lift packs off the ground and up...food and stuff....pretty weighty.
Throw line gives me concern about sawing into branch bark.
Tom
Tom... It is arborist throw line. But they are only using around 10oz throw weights with it. Then pulling up their climbing ropes.....
Its pretty slick... and sounds like you may actually be using it closest to its intended purpose.

As an arborist who uses line like this practically every day, I can tell you you're quite fine using it as a bear bag line or whatnot. We pull our climbing lines up with it (which weigh anywhere from 20-30 lbs. for a hank), and have yet to see any permanent damage to the crotches.
Climbing high,

Thanks Acer

Yippee!!! The postman just arrived!
My co-workers (non-camping types) were completely unimpressed until I told them how much weight this stuff would hold.
And not to worry KerMegan, Opie remembered to include my toggles (as I was sure he would) so I'll bet your figure 9's also make it.
Opie; thanks again for this great community effort!!! And always remember -- "no good deed goes unpunished"

You better not cry,
You better not pout,
I'm telling you why:
Santa Claus is coming to town. :D

They are with your line.
I hope OP remembers my fig 9's..
KM (pouting with no presents..)
Yep, I remembered to throw them in.
Postman delvered mine today, this stuff and my whoopie's look awesome :boggle: can't wait to try them out. Thanks for all your hard work:)
Man this stuff is thin. I can't wait to see if it will hold good weight on a whoopie sling. I was thinking ridgeline. but this will be really sic on my cuben hammock. Thanks for the STLs too. Thanks for doing this.
Im happy to see everyone is starting to get their line.
Remember... this is the busiest time of the year for the PO.

I got mine Friday I think.
Thanks Opie!
Is anyone going to post some tips and tricks on making these things into some whoopie or UCR guylines? Including pictures? Or does that exist already?
I know there are instructions for Amsteel, but this line is a much smaller diameter.
Thanks!

For my UCR guy lines... I use 8' for the main line and 20" for the constrictor.
2" loops, 1 on the main line and 1 on the constrictor with 2" buries. The rest of the constrictor is used for the bury of the main line. Then backsplice the tails.

My first ever whoopie sling is completed, in green dynaglide. What a fun thing this is going to be to show off to my kids and friends over the holidays. Now to dive back into the threads and read everything on whoopie slings. How long is the bury going to need to be with the dynaglide. I made mine ten inches, and it seems rock solid but I am not going to try to hang on it this late tonight.

I think youll be good with 10". I use 9" on my 7/64 slings... I believe the smaller diameter the rope, the shorter the bury. Thats the adjustable end.
I think Id stick with a 6" bury on the fixed eye.
And the green is far easier to splice than the orange.

Oh... youll be OK. The green pushes apart easier, thats all.
For me, and my big hands, anything that makes it easier is nice... For me, the green is easier.
I do have some... but not sure I want to get rid of it. Let me know how the orange works out for you.

I would trade 100 feet of green for 100 feet of orange.
I did some testing last night and made a whoopie sling. Amsteel is a little easier th get the threads apart but no big deal at all. My 300 feet wieghed 217 grams bringing it in at .72 grams per foot. I'm not sure what amsteel weighs, but I am sure it is more. I also did a weight test. It picked up 250 pounds and 500 pounds with no problem and there was no detectable stretch of the whoopie sling slipping. At 830 pounds it got it off the ground but then broke in 3 seconds. It broke right after the fixed ey bury and close but not right at the entry pont of the adjustable side. 830 is pretty good but you would have to be careful and inspect it often.

830 lbs is good..right.? As long as I weigh under 1600 lbs, I mean I'm impressed with how thin and light this stuff is. And strong.
Dutch, was that a vertical lift or 30* , common hanging angle?? Weren't the number different from amsteel and others, when pull testing ropes at angles?
That was a vertical lift and I put the fixed end around the hoist hook and the adjustable end around and eye bolt holding an 830 pound injection mold.
Is 830 good? Well it aint great. But great is only 170 pounds away. Yer are dynamic forces that are applied when in the hammock. You bounce and what not, plus the angle has a lot to do with it. One time I set up a hammock with a pulley and a large weight on a scale. I bounced pretty good on it and I could not get more than 225 pound of force on one side. I weigh 200 pounds. You have to use your own disgression since it is literally your butt. I'm not sure I want it on my hammock that I use often, but I might put it on my cuben since i am already real gentle with it and the whole point is to be low weight. I will also use it for tarp suspension and ridgline. It might be good for tie outs, but I really like speer no tangle for that. I alsl might run one line completely through another and use a marlin spike hitch.

thanks opie i got mine yesterday! I am impressed by 830lbs personally. Makes it seem like overkill for the tarp doesn't it? I was planning on making some UCR's (never did it yet) for the tarp. they still should be pretty light it seems to me although I bet there is lighter out there for tarps that works just fine.

Yes... That blows my mind.
Hey.. I see you have had to pay duties on things coming over the border. I was under the impression that USPS was the only carrier that was duty free for things going from US to Canada and Mexico and vice versa.
FedEx and UPS were the ones that always charged duties.....
NOT duty free.
