I have fallen in love with hanging and are now looking into taking my Hennessy Expedition Asym Zip for a my next longer vacation.
This year I did The West Highland Way the traditional way with booking accommodation 6 months in advance but I very much like traveling without having a fixed itinerary.
Do you have any experience with hanging on the Great Glen Way? I don't mind sleeping in a B&B or hostel occasionally but like the idea of just hanging if I like a spot. I'm mostly worried about being able to find suitable trees along the route. I have considered the "high" route so that might help me find trees.
I look forward to hearing from all of you experienced hangers :)

I have hammocked the Great Glen Way and West Highland Way. The Great Glen Way is VERY easy to find places to hang. We made it more difficult by having 2 hammockers and 2 (picky) tenters so had to find areas suitable for everyone.

We spent Night 1 near Clunes, plenty of spots before and after. Night 2 over the dismantled railway tracks next to Leitirfearn (abandoned building) at 26.5 miles. Night 3 at 45.5 miles on a bend just after Alltsigh. And night 4 at a spot around 64.5 miles although there were better spots before 63miles and after 67.5.

I'm jealous....one day I'll be there. Have you got any recommended readings or videos to watch?

I have just ordered this book from Amazon:

Still waiting for it to arrive :-)

I also use this site for good descriptions of hiking/walking routes in Scotland:

Hope that it helps you get started
