We have now posted the third article in a series of articles for the beginner hammocker, covering weather protection (i.e. tarps). If you know someone new to the concept of hammocking this may help.

that's excellent John. I wish I had something like this the day I brought my ENO home from the store...

Nice work, John.
MHCRL... One simple flea, for adjustment and tensioning.
I like it.

It's very simple- and with the addition of our new snake-skins even better. Thanks winterbeard!

I've just read through the second paragraph and already you've tagged the biggest reason I am reading this article on this blog and switching from a ground dweller to a hammock hanger: Site selection and the potential for swamping. Thanks for taking the time and effort and I'm already looking forward to an enjoyable and educational experience reading your series.

Thanks! I learned a few things. And I noticed you sometimes use a marlinspike hitch to tie your guy out lines to the stake. I have been doing that for years now and I rarely if ever see anyone else doing it. Everyone praises the prusik knot but I find the marlinspike hitch so easy to tie and untie that I almost always use it unless the ground is really hard to stake into.

I do actually use a prussik to attach my lines to the tarp. It's nice to have some adjustability after your lines are all set. But they stay attached, so I'm not tying them every time, that would be a pain. When I'm out camping I want something quick and simple for sure. Thanks for checking it out!
