What a great Weekend! Most of the people were arriving on Thursday and changed the beautifull forrest to a hammock hotel within hours. The kids enjoyed the creek and the woods, the adults enjoyed meeting old friends and making new ones. Everyone enjoyed the food and the fire. We had guests from France, Luxembourg, Austria and, of course, Germany.
The traditional "hammock hike" on day two took us nearly three hours (25+ setups, quite a lot for Europe). Blackbirds, Wookies, Incubators, DD stuff, Dutchware and many DIY projects. We even had some tents - how weird is that! Two big lighting truss cubes (awesome idea, Bernd!) were assembled on the meadow to show and try own stuff and sponsored equipment (Ticket to the Moon, Amazonas Hammocks, La Siesta and - as a newcomer - Arbora). Workshops on suspensions, edible and medicinal plants and miscellaneous DIY techniques spread common ideas and introduced new ones.
Thanks to everyone for making these four days such a marvellous event!

He, other european (or even american) hangers! Won't you join us next time? We've had a lot of fun, delicious food and - of course - hammocks! With our french guest we talked in english and french and some of us know other languages too, so communication wouldn't be a problem.

Awesome! The stage really threw me... bad tendency for my eyeballs to go straight for the photos.
Speaking of which, perhaps you can get the mods to put your post on the trip report forum instead of here to get more attention it deserves.

Good idea, thanks. Any mods reading here? Could someone help and move the thread, please? Or should I contact one directly?

The group hang was most delightful, and anything one could expect from such a gathering. I do not regret my 500 km trip to get there ! The German hangers were the kindest people. They exhibited many different hammocks anyone could test.
The hanging spot, a large clearing surrounded by woods, featuring a beautiful large covered barbecue, was perfect. Hutzelbein (https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/member.php/6856-hutzelbein) even thought about bringing the necessary ingredients and apparel to cook us pancakes in the morning, which was truely nice.
What a pleasure to discuss for three days with kindred spirits !
I hope we will be able to plan a hike with several participants in the future.

Fabulous! If a European vacation was on my radar, this is exactly how I would want to spend it! Forget the tourist spots and travel guides - give me the woods and new friends. I like the small towns and the countryside.
It looks like everyone had a wonderful time. Thank you for sharing this report. I enjoy hearing how hammocking makes the world a happier place :)

It was well worth extending the trip with a little tour along the long praised by Romantic poets Rhine river, only 60 miles away. Here the town of Bacharach.

Looks like a great hang. I'm glad you were all able to come together. Maybe a few of us Amis might make it over there for a visit.

Wow, I'm jealous of so many things about your hang, but especially that monster fire pit & covered gazebo with seating. I've never seen anything like that and I think it is perfect! I wish every group site in the U.S. came with one of those. By chance, is there a special word for it? Something like: Ehrfürchtiges Feuerstellehaus? (Awesome firepit house?)

You're lucky that we Germans are not very patriotic or at least very relaxed in these matters: the German flag is black red gold, not dark green, yellow, red

Please do. This was our first meeting with more nationalities than just Germans and Austrians. It's great to meet people from other cultures in such a nice setting.

Yes, it's a fantastic site. Don't get the wrong impression, though: unfortunately places like that are few and far between. That's why I drive 7 hours to hammock meetings there. That might not be a lot to an American, but it's almost another country in Europe! These types of places usually belong to a village and were built by the community for the community. But they are private. In this case, we have good connections to the Ortsvorsteher (I don't think there's a word for that in English - but you could translate it jokingly with "village chief").
I will suggest putting a plaque with "Ehrfürchtiges Feuerstellenhaus" on the fire hut, but we only call it "Grillhütte" (BBQ hut) or - if our chief of firebugs is there - "das Höllenfeuer" (hellfire) :)

Looks like a great time with great pictures, thanks. Was wondering where this hang was held since I drove my motorrad (Motorcycle) all over Europe when I was there. The german people where always great.
This looks fantastic! I'd be up for joining you at one in the future. I've been looking for a reason to go back to Germany.
Where was this hang? I used to live outside Frankfurt.

7 hours is a long drive in whatever country you live in! I consider anything over 3 hours a long drive. At least in Germany you have the Autobahn with no speed limit. Unfortunately for Europeans, your fuel is much more expensive than here in the USA.

Any plans for 2018 ?
Yes! I still have to post an invitation. We will have a summer hang on the Pentecost week-end - May 18th to 21st. If you speak / understand German you can get more information here (http://www.haengemattenforum.de/forum/outdoor/treffen-und-veranstaltungen/43235-sommertreffen-orga-faden).

Well, there is no general speed limit, but in reality there are often local speed limits - and these days, the Autobahnen are clogged with trucks. It's hardly possible to go 180km/h for any substantial distances. Don't get me wrong: I would prefer it if there was a general speed limit. There are too many cars driven by people who think that they are the best drivers ever and who are in a dreadful hurry to get where-ever they're going. After a 7 hour ride I'm always amazed that there are not more accidents...

None that I know. It seems to be back online now.
Pity, the Pentecost weekend is already booked for another activity.
Maybe the autumn session then...
