View Full Version : Tarp Giveaway - Warbonnet Cloudburst - Scouts, Scout Troop Only

07-22-2017, 15:57
Sorry I am limiting this giveaway to Scouts, Scout Masters, Scout Troops etc. We need to keep getting these kids outside ;)

Since getting into bridge hammocks this year, I've gone a little nuts on tarps. I loved this cloudburst but wanted to explore the same style with a 13 foot length for better coverage, in cuben, silpoly etc. Well now I've got both and this cloudburst is never going to get used so I'm giving away to the community with the above caveat. It has only been out on two trips and in like new condition. I have a couple of flyz on the ridgeline and lines with prusik loops on the guy outs. All you'll need is line for your ridgeline tie outs (or side pullouts if you use them). Also has snakes skins. While made for the ridge runner it works perfectly fine on gathered ends, 90 degree, ground set ups or as a group area shelter, so feel free to respond even if you don't use a bridge style hammock in your troop (or personal kit).

I'll let this run for a week so that it can get the maximum exposure, then I'll run a random number generator based on rank to determine who shall receive next Saturday the 29th at 9 PM CST. Simply state "I'm in" and you're in, this being Hammock Forums the honor system will suffice and I'll assume you are involved somehow with Scouts. Parents obviously please feel free to jump in for your scout offspring, I realize many will not be forum members as teens have way more exciting things to do than hang out with us and discuss how to boil water quicker.

Thanks all.

What tarp did you end up going for to cover your RR?

Simply Light Designs Trail Duster 13' in Silpoly XL and a HG Camo Cuben in the same dimensions.

Well, I am neither a Scout Master or a Scout troop, but I want to say this is a great thing you are doing. We do need to get kids out in the wild more. Kids these days are so sheltered in their houses with their video games it is ridiculous.

A great give away idea. I just returned from our week long scout camp and loved every night in my hammock. Last year we had 25 in our troop who learned to sew and make a hammock. They have been improvising with blue tarps on many campouts. A real tarp for the gear closet will be a great addition for their next step.
Thanks! "I'm in"!

"I'm in".

As long as you consider a Fire Department Explorer program, which is a division of the Boy Scouts. That would be awesome, I've got two kids right now that need tarps.

I'm in.

If I win, I will hold a contest for the scout with the most nights camping in a hammock, and make this the prize.

I'm in.

If I win, this will go to my father who became an ASM this year after being away from Scouts for almost 20 years when he was my Scoutmaster. My father got back into it after my nephew became interested in Scouts last year, but didn't have a way to attend meetings. After a rough night in the woods, I convinced my father to try a hammock. Earlier this month he took his 1st vacation in years to take my nephew and the other Scouts to summer camp. He slept all week in a hammock I made for him.

Thanks for doing this and best of luck to everyone.

I'm in. For my daughter's GS Troop. #472 in GSCV council. Wife is the troop's Cadette and Senior Leader, as well as co-leader of the troop.

We've already had a few of them out with us, in hammocks, and the girls love it! Daughter teaches them how to properly pick a site, and how to hang their hammocks & tarps.

Sorry, wife's birthday and I ran a little behind. Now officially closing entry and will be running the random number generator. I simply started with one and each "I'm in" post sequenced two, three etc. I will announce the winner in the thread and also send a PM. Thanks again all.

Congrats mbal1856!

Thanks alifeoutdoors for supporting the Scouts and Scouters in our wonderful hammocking community.

Thanks alifeoutdoors. My son finally saw the light and decided to get off the ground after I loaned him some of my stuff on our last trip so now he will have his own tarp. Pretty sweet tarp to have as a first tarp.
Now off to bring him to Scout camp in the morning.

Congrats mbal1856

Well, sitting watching TV with the family and a truck pulls up. Wife looks out and say why is a FedEx truck here at 9:00? I didn't order anything did you? Me: Nope, while thinking in the back of my head the dehydrator I ordered wasn't supposed to be here til Thursday.
Low and behold its a new tarp. Thanks Alifeoutdoors for the contest and the tarp. I'm going to keep using my DIY winter tarp, but my son is going to enjoy his new clouburst. Can't wait to get it set up.

08-08-2017, 21:03
Awesome, I hope he enjoys it.
