This will be my second top quilt build and I can already feel my experience is helping.

Planning was far easier.

I have learned many lessons and have made ALL the marks for cuts and lines for baffles all at once from the get go!

Using a laser level as a guide - and a straight edge and some white soap to mark - it's gonna be far easier this time around!

This is gonna be a TQ for my local best bud - 2.5 inches of loft - 90 argon inner and outer shell - he wanted the outer shell black and inner blue.

Final dimensions will be 86 long and 49 wide, he wanted a non sewed footbox so doing it with the Velcro and cord channel and a Kam snap exactly like my JRB TQ.

No taper in the build.

10% as I recall overstuff - just under an ounce per baffle (longitudinal baffles) - each baffle is 3.5 inches wide forming 14 of them with the side two of them will taper off so will get a bit less down in those.

Just finished marking off all the marks for baffle placement to tonight and made raw cut - which is 92 x 55 which gives a 3 inch seam allowance for a 1 inch roll hem on all sides.

850fp goose down from Dutch (was on sale last week)

Looking to learn from this....
I'm contemplating making a set of quilts (UQ first)

UQ is far tougher in ways

Getting the differential cut both length and width wise and mending that all together to give the right shape...my first UQ build last year needed several post build hacks to work but it works amazing still - I will do my second UQ as soon as I finish this TQ.

I'm making video of the parts of this build and plan to throw it up as a YT video - don't hope for great quality lol

I really don't need a new quilt but every time I see a new one on the DIY I get an itch to make another.
Love to built new gear and love to see others making it too.
Good luck!

Last night I cut the baffles at 2.75 raw cut - and that will put the final width (loft) will be 2.25 - mayb 2.5 after 10% overstuff

I am videoing all aspects and will be putting a crappy video together

First baffle was sewn on and this week I will finish first half I suspect

I've been videoing various segments of it - in horrible at the video but hopefully when I'm done it will help someone

I'll likely finish the project today - I have 2 baffles left to sew (did like 7 this morning already) - then sew around it - arrange footbox (cinch type at friends request) - then stuff it)

Down still needs some time to lift up but there it is...it is reversible but he wants black outside and blue inside. Cinched footbox - omnitape and a kam snap for foot box

I'll have more numbers soon - final loft - weight

Final dimensions are about 87 inches long - 49 inches wide.

Looks sharp. Very long. Do you find you're getting faster at them?

I think so in several fronts.

Planning was far quicker.

Marking lines in prep for cuts - I bought a very long piece of aluminum angle iron for marking my lines for baffle placement - made the process far far quicker.

Sewing the baffles I am far better at too..

Still...I'm not entirely sure - but I think it took me total perhaps 8 ish hours - but it is 14 baffles so it is quite a bit of sewing.

Where did you get the original patterns when you first started? That's a nice color combination. Looking good and thanks for sharing.

I only took basic dimensions (length and width) from my JRB Hudson River TQ - I basically winged the longitudinal baffles - which is easy enough as there is no taper in this design so pretty simple.

So how does one learn how to sew the small pieces that connect the top and bottom that make the "walls" of the baffle? This is the way these are made so that you are not sewing through to the other side correct?

Really looks great, nice job! How much down in total and how much per baffle?

Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkThank you for the video. Great work. One thing I am unclear on is how you sewed the baffles to the top and bottom material. I am new to this and cant get my head around how you sew something in between two pieces of material that size.
