View Full Version : CLOSED: 1.1oz Ripstop - Woodland Camo - $2.75

sclittlefield
02-08-2010, 21:26
My main supplier has just come out with a 1.1oz Uncoated Woodland Camo ripstop nylon that I can get at a really good price. This fabric is 1sts, not 2nds. It is supposed to be 68" wide.

It is NOT downproof.

While I cannot make any guarantees for end use - I believe it would be well suited for double layer hammocks, hammock socks, over covers, stuff sacks, IX covers, shells for synthetic quilts, etc. Really, anything where a very lightweight, breathable, camouflage fabric is ideal.

I can offer this fabric for $2.75/yd + shipping.

I will run this group buy for a while until it seems orders have cooled down then make the large purchase. While I intend to get more than we order in this group buy, only those who purchase through this thread on HF will get the $2.75 pricing. I will offer up the remainder through my website for $3.00/yd.

When I make the purchase I'll post instructions for payment/shipment. I intend to use Priority Mail which runs roughly between $6-9 for up to 12yds, and $7-12 for 13-30yds. (Price range depends on your shipping Zone - I'm in Maine so the further you get the more it is). Either way, it will be actual cost - no handling fee.

Here's a picture of the fabric.

The positive results from the Make Your Own Sil thread have inspired me. Put me down for 15 yards Scott.

I didn't quite catch what the mixture or system was that he used... was it just sil and mineral spirits in a bucket or something? Maybe I missed a previous post and didn't connect the dots - but either way, I was pleased to hear the results. I may try it myself this spring.

It should work on that green stuff you bought earlier as well.

Payment Instructions:

Paypal acct: sclittlefield-AT-gmail-DOT-com

PLEASE add your HammockForums name in the memo!

IF you need it sent somewhere other than your paypal address, please email me at backwoodsdaydreamer-AT-gmail-DOT-com. Include your order details, paypal account it was paid for through, new address, and HF name.

Cost: $2.75 x yardage + shipping rate (explained below - I want to make this quick and easy)

Shipping Rates (in US): These rates are less than actual cost, but it's a real hassle trying to figure everyone's specific zone so I'll eat difference just to save time. The change is at 12yds because that's about the amount I can fit before the weight bumps the shipping cost up to the next level.
1-12yds: $6.00
12+ yds: $8.00
Australia: $12.00

Example: stickboy ordered 10yds. That'll be $2.75x10=27.50+6.00shipping=$33.50.

Down can work its way through Ripstop?! That's hard to believe, haha.

Thanks for clarifying.

Wish I had some extra money to get some of this with. (But I dont! :()

actually there are varying grades of fabric, even in ripstop- it is the tightness of the weave that hinders the down's escape attempts- if the fabric is fairly firm and the threads interlock closely it will be more resistant to down 'stems' poking through, and will better prevent the feathered parts from squeezin through the hole the stem (i have trouble callin it a quill) has made.
so even if a fabric had a small dernier rating, there will be more threads per inch for it to equally resist down escapes than a fabric of higher d-rating, which is tightly packed, but will still have fewer threads per inch due to the larger size of each thread.
Hope that is slightly clearer than mud! KM

So it is the responsibility of us who take advantage of his efforts. To get our payments out to him in a timely manner. I am embarrassed to say that my paypal payment to him was just sent out a few minutes ago. I been on the Forum almost everyday. But for some reason I did not click on this group buy thread. I've still got some left Tedinski, if you want it. Upwards of 20yds should be safe.

I've just got to be careful not to expend all 500yds - I always cut at least 1ft extra for each order to make sure you get your full yardage. That's not much each... but after 40 orders it becomes quite a good length and I don't want to come up short.

Just post here or PM how much you'd like. Payment instructions are back a page or two.

Not a problem, one fella dropped 5yds, so I've got it to spare.

Payment sent: $2.75 *4 + $2.00 additional for the shipping= $13.00

Thanks.....I am going to make a tarp as well and want to try the waterproofing technique.

Yup. And that order finishes off the roll. No more to dole out, sorry.

I didn't have any orders to ship out today, but should have some tomorrow and throughout this week.

Thanks everyone,
Scott L.

Has this shipped yet? I keep looking for it, but don't know when to expect it to arrive.

You should have received an email by now, if not, it'll show tomorrow.

I have cut, packaged, and labeled about 40 shipments. They all go out in the AM.

Oh, and here's some good news/bad news. I was very careful to give everyone quite a bit extra material. The group buy ordered up 475yds, I bought 500. I figured the extra 25 would be half used up in overage cuts, and the rest I'd buy myself to use. Well... apparently I was a bit too generous. :) I'm short 40yds. The missing yardage will be here Monday (and don't worry, it's just a few folks whose payment is in the mail - yet to arrive - whose yardage will come out of that new order - the rest of you should be getting it early to mid next week).

So, good news is that you're all getting a fair bit extra in your orders. :shades:

Enjoy - and I hope to see lots of woodland camo in DIY threads shortly. :)

Scott, that's a big project brother. 500 yards of special orders. Considering you didn't start cutting the till late last week I would say that's a great turn around.

The little bit of extra fabric is generous! Feel free to put my order to the back if it helps.

Your hard work is appreciated.

Scott, I'm getting a sense that you're eating some of the cost on this buy, and I don't think any of us want or expect that. I'd like to send you a supplemental payment.

Agreed.

Your not planning on eating that 65 yards, right? (25 extra + 40 short)

I appreciate the thought, but I won't accept it. :) Well, I accept the concern, just wont accept more $$. :)

I'm happy to. When I start selling by the yard on a more regular basis from my website, I'll likely have to be a bit more careful on overage, but for all you HF DIY'ers - I'm glad to toss in some extra fabric. :)

Like Stormcrow recently said - I've also got a soft spot for the DIY crowd here. :)

I'll send you a set of plans I've written up. Also, the top post in the DIY section has a great design of a HH knock off by HC4U. That should get your feet wet. :)

I just posted DIY for a gathered end hammock. The one I show is made from 1.9oz ripstop from Speer but I've also made two others, a single and a double layer, from Scott's 1.1oz ripstop using the same techniques.

Ok Gang - I just got the new Shipment in today. I'll be cutting tonight when I get home and hopefully send the rest of your orders out tomorrow morning - Wed. morning at the latest if I don't get it all done (I expect I will though).

Thanks for your patience.

Oh, one more thing: I did go ahead and order ANOTHER 500yards (better discount for that much).

The remainder of that will not be done through this Group Buy. I will offer it on my website for $3.00/yd - BUT will also shortly post in the "For Sale" section at the current discount cost of $2.75/yd for HF members only. :)

Yes it is!

I just emailed the two-layer hammock instructions. Adapt it to your needs, and check out the DIY thread by Knotty on how to make a hammock.

(p.s. Congrats on your thread becoming a sticky Knotty!).

Anyone who'd like the 2-Layer Hammock instructions please email me with the request at: [email protected]. Thanks. I just can't attach the PDF in the email sending system through HF.

They're specific instructions for one way to do it - but should give you a working knowledge of how to do most any style once you read through them. Adapt as you see fit.

Up here in the Great Wet North the M81 Woodland (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M81_Woodland) pattern does not fit in as well as CADPAT (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CADPAT) or Flecktarn (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flecktarn).

Any suggestions for finding those patterns on 30D nylon?

Five yards of olive and five yards of camo just arrived.

Is that "olive" uncoated ripstop (I didn't find any other references to it)?

I have cut and packaged up all of the orders for this group buy. The remainder of the 'paid for' orders go out tomorrow morning. I'll contact anyone who hasn't paid through PM to see if they still want it.

Moderators - please feel free to lock this up. I will post any further sale of this material in the "For Sale" section. Thank you.
