It’s a yearly organized event that for some reason on another, i miss out on. Will make determined effort to attend this time around.

¥1000 yen for one day admission
¥3000 for both days including campsite

Reservation starts April 6th. Camp space is limited to 40 people and they seem to sell out.

Just avoid the summer (and the hornets). It’s a blast! First round of Asahi at camp will be on me.

No, it’s not an official campsite but is used by lots of folks. I go there often to test new gear - easy walk from the station.

Yes, camped overnight. There are lots of grey areas in Okutama. Just be mindful of others. I usually go find camp off trail and don’t set up until a couple hours before sundown. I’ll try to pack up before the first hikers approach in the morning. It’s all about not being a ご迷惑.

That said, there are a few authorized campsite on trail in Okutama. The best thing about them is they have water, toilets and serve beer.
There are two excellent campsite on either side of Kumotori where you can hang a hammock.
