Good afternoon all,

I am relocating to new zealand in october (Christchurch). Does anyone know any good spots to use a hammock around christchurch/Canterbury? I see the DoC has several basic campsites, are those suited or should one aim for public lands?

Thanks in advance
Hans

You've already found the local doc webpage...good start.
https://www.doc.govt.nz/parks-and-recreation/places-to-go/canterbury/

Google tramping clubs Christchurch for another perspective, there's quite a few.

If you like to combine hiking & trout fishing....click on the river or lake to see detailed info.
https://www.nzfishing.com/fishingwaters/northcanterbury/ncregion/ncnorthcanterburyregion.htm

Moirs South is a local hiking guide book for the Fiordland NP area south/west of you if you feel like exploring further afield.

Canyoning in Nz is another guide book with your region in one of its chapters...if your into cold water adrenaline adventures.

Not the easiest forum to navigate...but plenty of local info.

Great area to explore, Hans...wish I was walking in your shoes, good luck. :shades:

Also have a look at www.bushwalk.com

This covers general hiking (with a fair number of hammockers) across Australia and New Zealand.
