Does anyone know where one can acquire non-coated polyester ripstop? preferably 1.1oz if not lighter? Thanks

Jo Ann Fabrics has ripstop for $6.99 yard. Most of it is 2 oz. The Yellow feels like it is a littler lighter. It may be 1.1 not sure. I'm in Fl but I think JoAnn fabrics is pretty consistent around the country. You can get it online ...just Google it .
Some have found it at WalMart..but I have never found any at a WalMart.

I have never seen _polyester_ ripstop @ joanns. They have a mediocre selection of nylon ripstop but nothing as light as 1.1 that I have ever seen. Polyester ripstop is significantly harder to get a hold of. There have been several attempts to find a supplier for it before. Not sure how successful they have been.

I didn't even know that polyester ripstop existed. I was assuming OP was asking about nylon. I'm back in my hole...

nah... get out of your hole. No problem. I don't know that I have ever clapped eyes on polyester ripstop myself... but I do know there have been several attempts to track it down before.

My hole was full of water!
Try this link: Looks like you can buy any kind of sport fabric you might need here.

Rockwoods has some very nice stuff p/n EMR-108.
Animalcontrol and JerryW both made very nice hammocks with it.http://http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/showthread.php?t=12605

The Rockywoods EMR-108 is nice fabric and has become TeeDee's preferred fabric for non-experimental Bridges simply because of the micro-fiber and how it feels and the fact that polyester stretches way less than nylon.

Also, remember that ripstop isn't really necessary for a hammock. It is what most people use simply because most other people use it and recommend it for other DIYers and it is easy to get. But the ripstop threads doesn't really do you any good in a hammock.

Non-ripstop polyester works just as well. Check out Hennessy's web site for the fabric he uses - very little ripstop.

Does anyone know if this polyester fabric PN EMR-108 from Rockywoods is still available? I couldn't find it on their website.

Spinntex (or Spinn for short) and Polymax (http://www.kitebuilder.com/inventory/polymax.gif) and other brands used for making spinnaker sails are types of polyester ripstop and are sold by a variety of sail and kite builder retailers.

Thru-Hiker (http://thru-hiker.com/materials/coated.php) sometimes carries high quality poly ripstop.

Mountain Laurel Designs (http://www.mountainlaureldesigns.com/fabric.php) uses a fabric called Spintex EXP which they tested as being the best of 75 spinn fabrics they field tested; but I don't know where to buy it... I'd be interested in knowing too!

PS - Just made a small diamond tarp out of this. (http://www.kitebuilder.com/catalog/product_info.php/cPath/24_110/products_id/1297?osCsid=8e19378d2407ed039d15ede7eed42eb2) I plan to use it as a regular light duty tarp. I'm in Southern California and we don't get a lot of rain, so I mainly need a tarp for shade and to keep some of the morning dew at bay...

Vermont Barre Army Navy has a great selection of camo materials. The link here might be what you are looking for. The prices can't be beat. Lots of other good stuff too.

Booya:

I would just call Rockwoods.

Well, I gave Rockywoods a call, and they don't have any. It's not a fabric that they continually order. So, there's no telling when they'll get more in.

I also called vtarmynavy, and stuff is in the 6-8oz/sq yd range. Too heavy.

I just really want to make a light weight bridge hammock, and I cant find the light polyester anywhere.

If nothing turns up, I guess I'll just have to suffer with a little more shoulder squeeze with the nylon  Oh well, I guess it's not the end of the world. I'll just make another one when some 1.9oz poly turns up.
