Hey guys. After my recent PCT thru hike I was able to put together information I was able to figure about hammock camping the Pacific Crest Trail. The link is below. I didn't want to copy and paste the article because there are tons of pictures and embedded links that may provide more info for readers.

If you have time, give it a read. As usual I'd love to hear any comments or feedback. This group gave me a lot of information before the trail and I used that to successfully finish the trail in a hammock and will hopefully use it to get more hammock folks out on the trail.

Great article. If I were doing this through hike I think I would have carried a tent through the desert and switched out to my hammock for the rest of the trail for weight savings and to not have to do the extra miles hunting for trees. The good news is that it's doable and I would have never imagined that.

Yeah there was time in the desert where I got pretty familiar with going to ground but with the excellent weather in the Desert tarping it on the ground wasn't horrible but theres a reason this type of shelter system is mostly used by the more seasoned hikers. I actually talked to at least one other person who used a tent for the first section and then switched out for the rest of the trail and he said it worked great.

Interesting way of putting it. I could most likely afford the cost of doing a thru hike. But I can’t afford the time away from family and work.

You're realistic about the desert section and having watched a few videos on PCT hikers I'm stunned that you managed to hammock camp 75 percent of the time. You give a lot of good information in your article that I've not seen gathered together like that in one concise spot. I've bookmarked the embedded videos to watch later but wanted to tell you how impressed I was with the article itself.

I was lucky to work for about 6 years to get the time and funds so I used it to go see the US by foot. Good luck getting out there even if its just for a small trip!

You could definitely most likely afford the money costs as its cheaper than most people estimate. The other costs are determining factors for sure.

Thanks for reading and your feedback. The best scenery for videos in the desert is in the sections where you wouldn't even imagine finding hammock trees so what you see may be slightly skewed. I actually talked to others who had better luck than 75% but they did things like stopping early for a hammock spot while I either ground camped or hiked further sometimes not even finding a hammock spot.

Not sure what ads you are referring to. I gave the rights to my video to the Trek so they could have definitely put ads in the video but it still should be just as good! Have a great day and happy hanging!
