Just wondering if there are any recommendations for car camping spots in Southern Ontario that offer decent hanging spots. From what I've been reading it sounds like the EGL group goes to Valens quite a bit?

I am located in London, Ontario and am looking for a spot to take my wife on an overnighter and try to get her into a hammock.

Any recommendations are appreciated.

Hi Tessiea. Welcome to the forums!

I'm afraid that I can't offer much help regarding car camping in S.Ont, as I've really only been to Valens, Rattlesnake Point (very nice) and some of the Provincial Parks on the Georgian Bay.

That being said, I'd say that you pick a spot based on the activities that interest you. If you just want to drive up and hang out around the fire pit (a noble pass-time), then most anywhere will do. Somewhere like Valens is particularly nice because of the heated washrooms, walking trails and friendly staff.

Hopefully we'll see both you and the missus in the future!

Can't help specifically, but there's a youtube channel which shows pictures of some Ontario provincial campsites : https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCzJU7kCCteWf3-RQ8JrbEsg

Thanks for the responses everyone. I booked site 176 at the Pinery for an upcoming weekend. I’ll report back with some photos for anyone that may be interested in the future.

Valens is pretty nice actually. For a Conservation Area that's not far (20 minutes from my place in Waterdown) it does have a Provincial Park type feel to it. Some sites are actually pretty nice and if you go this time of year it's really quiet. You can camp in the winter there as well.

Quick update for anyone that may be interested. Spent Saturday night at Pinery Provincial Park, Dunes area 3, site 176 and we had a great setup. Probably one of the better car camping sites I have been too, especially for hammocks. The site was quite large compared to most with well spaced trees that could easily accommodate 3-4 hammocks and still plenty of space for a camp kitchen and fire. Privacy was also pretty good and short distance to comfort station. Hopefully this is useful to someone in the future.
