I've noticed there's a significant price increase when comparing a LL UQ with a TQ with similar specs and temperature ratings. I would think that the amount of materials (fabric, down, etc.) in both would be relatively the same, with underquilts actually having a bit more hardware (shock cords, carabiners, clips, etc.) that would in theory make them more pricey and time consuming to make...

So I'm curious why topquilts cost so much more than underquilts.

Maybe top quilts sell more than UQ since ground dwellers can use them? More people are purchasing TQ so they can make a little bit more off the sale. Plus I think theres more time involved doing the baffles (but what do I know). I think the prices are in line and competitive with the rest of the industry.

TQ's are usually longer, wider as a whole, and are more complicated design wise would be my guess.

There 's more labor involved in a LLG topquilt.
