Good read. I agree with most observations. My initial night fix starts out in a hammock. Unfortunately, I one of the 25% of men who enjoy prostate enlargement and consequently I am up 2 or 3 times a night (laser surgery next week). Sometimes it ends in a hammock and other nights I'll crawl back onto a bed for a change up.

It could indeed be prostate issues, good luck with that surgery, but most hammockers, even in great health, don't achieve a lay with their legs flat compared to their chest and this results in fluids draining from their legs all night and, for me at least, can result in one or two trips to the nearest tree during the night.
However, If you can prop your feet up on a log or a rock for about 30-45 minutes before you go to sleep, all of the fluids in your leg will drain down into your abdomen and be processed by your kidneys. You end up with lots of fluids, blood, lymph, water etc down in your legs after a day of hiking as they do the necessary to keep your muscles from doing bad things, like cramping. If you artificially speed up the draining process in the evening by propping up your feet above your heart, you'll end up with a really long pee before heading to sleep. After that I can usually make it through the night without waking up.
I usually take a chair with me when backpacking and I'll sit in it and then prop my feet up on a log after dinner, but you can obviously do the same without taking a chair.
Again, good luck and hope to see you back on the trail soon!

-long time lurker, finally registered so I could ask about good places to hammock around Dolly Sods for my trip in July.

Once I went for hiking and I slept in the hammock. It was fun, and I want to relax, travel and sleep in Hammock again.
