View Full Version : Primary suspension mod?
Just got my super quality, 50", habinaro UQ and have been looking at how to change the angle of the suspension lines by my head.
Seems that the usually way is to have them go to the ridgeline which seems like it would be more out of my face than how it is. Unfortunately I haven't yet figured a way to do that w/o cutting the line and making it two loops, one from each side.
Running a dogbone from the CL is not a problem, or even adding a pussic to the ridgeline, but I would have to thread the hammock through the UQ every time. Not only would that be a pain but it would be even harder using the fronkey net.
Has anyone come up w/ a good way to do this mod w/o cutting the line?

How does underquilt vendor say2 attach underquilt?
Or are you gonna do a modification?
Maybe attach underquilt suspension to end of hammock at continuous loop area.
Then if needed, get a length of line to straddle hammock ridgeline and tie onto underquilt suspension, to help hold underquilt snug at hammock end—a known area for gaps and drafts.
At point, your length of line straddles hammock ridgeline, you can attach with prusik.
However you decide to proceed...
If it works...it works
If it don’t work, it’s Phantom’s fault

It is meant to attach at the CLs, and yes, I'm wanting to do a mod. That's why I put that in the subject line. [emoji14]
W/ it in the stock configuration the suspension lines are in my face more than I like.
If I just pull the primary lines up to the ridgeline while leaving them connected at the CLs it gets super tight.
If I add something to the CL (like a dogbone) so that I can hook it to the ridgeline and keep it from sliding (a prussic would work as well) then it starts to get complicated as one end of the hammock has to be disconnected and run between the two primary lines.
I think you will need to shorten the suspension if you go the the SRL. I know I did, but I sent both ends of the suspension to the SRL, so maybe just not as short. I used Dutch's shock cord mitten hooks, but I suppose you could retie the suspension and move the knot off to one side or even into the channel on the UQ if large enough. You'd need to thread the single mitten hook on to the prussik and you could pack the hammock and UQ together to avoid having to "unthread" the two.
