When you post a thread their is an option for tags:confused:. You are able to have 12 of them. Am i missing something really obvious?

Tags are keywords you can use to categorize posts. Think of them as labels in a virtual filing system. Your post is filed in only one location, but with tags you can make it show up in several other virtual locations. Doing a tag search is like opening a folder labeled with that tag; every post with that tag will appear in the search results.

Lets you overlay various taxonomies on the basic storage structure.

Tags help with searching, you can add them or the forum software will put some in on it's own. They can be clicked on the bottom of the page just above the quick reply box. Clicking on them can do a search in the forum for other threads that have the same term used in them. This thread you started has two that were automatically generated.

Tags are some of what google uses to rate a page along with the page content

in order to place the page in a search result.
