Today i had a chance to play around with a new toy.....

THE DUTCH BINER

A few notes on the Dutch biner.....

They weight less then a oz ...

The construction is top notch ...they are well made and you can tell alot of time was put into the design

They make setup with Whoopie slings alot faster...no need to make a marlin spike hitch anymore

better get in line Peeps :D

Just received my first order of Dutch Biners....the molybdenum alloy seems perfectly appropriate. I like the way the weight limit is stamped on the side and reads 1700kN.
The polishing is beyond reproach! Thanks again for more American ingenuity.

Experimental tests and observations of gravitational radiation are very important.

I can say and agree that the DB's purpose is radical, who would have thought a coal miner from the fields in Pennsylvania would have brought nanocytes to the hammocking world-but he did. And if you think is simply a piece of metal think again....think AI! a piece of hammock kit that knows what your thinking, sees your hanging patterns and auto adjusts.

My set of DBs has replaced me. They set up my hammock, carry my pack and hike in my shoes.

Seriously - it's a biner. It does what biners do. It's much smaller and lighter for its strength than any biner I'm aware of, though...so it's like a tiny biner on steroids. Just the kind of innovation we expect from Dutch.

I didn't have any biners in my setup, but at this weight it's just too convenient not to. I'm replacing my DCs with them...the biners work much better than DCs on cord-based systems like whoopies and UCRs. My wife and son will get the DCs for their webbing-based systems.

Not revealed as yet.

But not to worry, Dutch has only one child (that I know of) that needs a college fund. So lemme see, 1 college education at a state university in 15 years, hmm. Right now the cost of an education at Penn State Harrisburg is $115K (see this table (http://www.payscale.com/education/average-cost-for-college-ROI)). Costs grow at, I dunno, 3% per year, so in fifteen years that's $180K.

So Dutch needs $180K of profit on this. Being his spiritual advisor, I happen to know (he told me in confession) that he's prepared to make 3,000 of these, so he needs to pocket (beyond costs) $60 each. I'd estimate the cost of making one (mostly labor) at $7.50. He'll likely sell these through some outlet or other, which might take I dunno, 20% of the net revenue (Dutch is a clever craftsman but is absolutely no good at negotiating business deals). So that brings us to $84.375 each, round that up to $85 to include shipping. A pair of them (no hammock set up complete without it!) $170.

If he's smart, in his introductory sale he'll offer a pair of Dutch biners and throw in an DIY hammock for for incentive.

:scared: 3% per year? I WISH! It averages 5% to 8% annually. That's why the Florida prepaid tuition system imploded. There's no safe investment that can keep up with tuition increases. Dutch is going to need at least $240k which means $80 profit per biner so the price will have to be at least $110 each. Maybe we'll be able to get a pair for $200.

...and wouldn't that be a DDI (Dutch Did It) hammock? Unless you can find him a sweat shop in far-far-away to make them for him.

I see the Dutch biner being used to barter for food and goods in the future

or maybe the Dutch biner will be a sign of your Hammock status in the hammock community.....

Or they could just be used as part of a hammock suspension system...

No. We just all need to rein in our silliness. The easiest place to see it is the For Sale forum. There are post over there that took a huge left turn and kept right on going well after the item sold. Actually, we don't have to rein in anything. We just have to confine the silliness to the off-topic forum. I can't complain when they're basically saying, "please only be a dork in the designated dork zone".

....and what does this have to do with suspensions? :D EXACTLY!

no, I'm expecting the introduction to be "Call me Ishmael..."

The Dutch Biner playing the role of Moby ****, MedicineMan starring as Captain Ahab....

the silliness continues. Ends tomorrow. Only serious hammock business after today.

"Rosebiner....."
Citizen Dutch (1941)

(sung) "The hills are alive with the sound of 'Biners"
The Sound of DutchBiners (1965)

"On the 23rd Day of the Month of September in an early year of a decade not too long before our own, the human race suddenly encountered a deadly threat to its very existence, and this terrifying enemy surfaced, as such enemies often do, in the seemingly most innocent and unlikely of places..."
Little Shop of DutchBiners (1986)
