So I've got two cast iron poles in my basement which are exactly 96" apart from center to center. I have the Grand Trunk Ultralight (http://www.thetravelhammock.com/ProdDetails.aspx?prodId=64), which I calculate is 114" long. What should the ridgeline length be for a 114" hammock? Do I have too much sag at only 96"?

I say you work it until it feels right. 96" is about the length I did on my nano7

Unfortunately, there isn't any room to experiment. I can't go any wider, but I could give it more sag. The S-Hooks are tied directly to the poles and it seems like I have excessive sag as it is. I'll let you know if it is comfortable or not after we get a theoretical optimal length.

I had to take mine to the carport to play with the sag.

Others have said that a good starting point is 83% of hammock length.
That works out to 94.62" on your hammock, so it sounds like you may need to use every inch you have available.

Thanks! I doubt I'll miss that extra inch as the hammock is very comfortable right now. It just seems that it has too much sag, but the 83% tells me I've always hung the ENOs and GTs far too taught.

I hung too tight for a long time.
