Nest and HH together

I was using my hammock this weekend and am still trying to shake the bugs out. When you use the JRB nest and a HH together is it best to connect the two together with the velcro or close the nest up first. I find it difficult to close the quilt and after doing a midnight run it never seems to get closed properly.

I find it much easier to leave the Nest closed and just push it aside when you enter/exit the Hennessy. Others do it this way also.

I would probably want to sew it shut. I also use it as a quilt when tent camping with my son, but it doesn't stay together well. I also just picked up a Speers that I will be using it on. Thanks for the tip.

I hook up the nest to the HH with most of the nest's velcro still exposed. After getting in I sit cross-legged and pinch the velcro with thumb & forefinger, running them along the nest's velcro like a zipper, from the far end to the point where I'm sitting. YMMV.

You'll lose the ability to wear the quilt if you sew it shut. Mine stays shut with no problem.

I am thinking about what to do to stay warm this winter. I camp every month with my son who is in scouts. I have a HH SS, but will that be enough or should I invest in the nest do you think?

It's not that it doesn't stay shut, the problem comes in taking the time to close it in the middle of the night. I also don't bend well that way. I am going to try and get in with it already closed, slipped to the side. How about connecting to the HH velco. Does it lead to drafts?

More than one has been able to make the SS wokable at really cold temps, but some aren't so lucky. There are a number of easy, cheap, light tricks to get more out of it, especially if you already have one. Lot's has been posted here about that. But if you have the money, the UQ's seem to be the most popular route, and have their own advantages. Plus, the NS can be worn, saving some weight.

I think it's a warmer set-up when I take the time to match the HH to the nest.

And I found just the opposite. With the nest mated to the HH I couldn't get the opening to seal up fully and it allowed cold air to get the my bum. Maybe I didn't have it mated properly but I found it much warmer to mate the Nest to itself and just push it aside as I enter or exit the HH.

I don't own a Nest (no color blindness here) but sag under the knees is a problem I've heard alot and it has happened with my KAQ. It seems like mating the Nest to the hammock velcro would minimize this.
