Is it possible to put an internal ridgeline on a switchback? I rather not have to tie the bugnet up to the tree.

You must be unwilling to burn little holes in yer netting...

That goes unsaid. So how does that make it so there is an internal RL? I go from the suspension through little holes?

I don't think there is anything to make fast to on the inside...

I may be missing something... It's a gathered end hammock, isn't it? Just run the RL out through the gather and attach it like on the BB.

I've only set it up once and I am hoping someone already tried to put an internal RL on it. It seems to me that the hammock lays so flat that the gathered end is not much higher than my head.

Actually, it's me that's missing something! I don't know how easy it is to disassemble and reassemble a Switchback, or any hammock that has a permanent bugnet. I also don't know what height above the gathered end is ideal, as Dutch mentioned. Surely, Dutch can figure it out!

As long as it isn't the long and bumpy road you should do well!!!!!!

On my Claytor, I burned small holes in the center of the grosgrain that the spreader bars attach to. I was more comfortable doing this than making holes in the weaker netting.

I had been thinking the same thing, about adding a ridgeline. It seemed like I was always having to adjust the length of the shock cords that support the netting, due to variations of the setup. Also they are another conduit for water to follow. Then I started attaching the netting to the tarp's ridgeline eyes, since it is always pretty close to the same. I really enjoy the lack of the ridgeline for lounging. It seems to work well for me.

On the Switch back even if you don't have a RL you still have the netting to interfere with lounging don't you?

Not sure which switchback you have, but the 1.1 Double Layer Switchback has loops sewn on the inside on either end of the bugnet.

The netting rolls up much higher than a ridgeline.

Yeah, with the netting rolled-up it really is out of the way.
I haven't really looked at it in terms of adding a RL, so I'm not of much help.

I was told to not rely on these for a RL.

Dutch, Take a look at this. It may be a simpler solution than running seperate lines around each tree...

I contemplated this as well... Untill those times when you want to hang tarpless!!!

If you do go this way, a couple prusik loops on the TRL make set up and adustment a snap.

Hey Guys,
I don't and have not seen the switchback in person, but after looking at Grizz's videos on his new bridge hammock. Would that type of set-up work for this? With a non structural ridgeline and putting some tabs with shock cord on the netting. Just curious.

Yes, it will work.
