I am thinking seriously about placing an order with Featherind (http://www.featherind.com/). They have a pretty good price on 750fp down. Has anyone here purchased from them? If so, do you reccomend or warn?
I can't find prices or anything on their site. How much are they charging?
When in doubt I try to email and call web companies before I order. I haven't had a problem yet with a company that had good customer service.

I should have posted that I have been in contact with them. The 750 runs about $4.69 an oz. including shipping.
I just saw that on WB. Hammock Forums gets checked first now. For that price you, depending on shipping, you could order an oz and see. If you are not in a hurry.

They have a minimum order of 2 POUNDS! So its all or nothing. It would be enough for a nice 3.5 season quilt set. Its just hard to drop $150 to an out of country company that I have no prior exp. with.

It would be nice to be able to do a group buy. 20 pounds or more gets a 20% discount. The only drawback is how ever much you order all comes in one container. One bag with 320 oz of down:eek:
If it was uncompressed, it would be in a refrigator box.

That's a possible! A two pound order comes in an 8 cu.ft. box.
Not compressed too much.... about 42%.

I bet you could get 20 people to spring for a pound each if you post at WB and backpackinglight.com. But then you'd have to measure and ship it all...may not be worth the 20% discount!

all that weighing and shipping would be a lot of trouble. They would have to be willing to trust my scales! Doubt it would be worth the trouble.

I rec. the order from Feather ind today.
It came in a 20x20x20 box.

Inside the box was a bag with a total weight of 38.95 oz

The bag is pretty thin a light, should be at least 2 lbs of down.
Here is a closeup of the down.

These clusters appear larger than the 900 stuff I got last month.

Nice macro photo of the down. I have never seen it outside a sleeping bag.

weighs 27.65oz
Very warm:)
Should have enough left for a 2" and a 1" quilt. Should be all I need for all seasons here in AR.
nice quilt. Now comes the stupid question. How do you know how much down to use. I would have poured it all on there..lol

That's really nice Arkwater. I like the colors you used. What's the loft on that quilt?

Very nice. The green fabric is 1.1 nylon with a chemical DWR and the charcoal is 1.5 oz poly ripstop. Both have a very soft hand much like silk.

I was shooting for 3 inches, but the down that was supposed to be 750 seems more like 800. I can consistently measure 3.25 inches. I am very pleased with the quality of the down. It has a lot less feathers than the 900fp stuff I used in the red quilt. I used 450 grams (32 per baffle), and I have at least 500 left. There was only supposed to be 900 in the box.

How did you manage the down?
