what do you think of this....completely removing the suspension rope and replacing with a slap strap. The sewn tunnel at the end of the Clark alows me to simpley unknot the rope and slide in a loop of eno slap strap. That way I can wrap around a tree and use a biner to clip from the big end loop to one of the sewn in loops. The length is only a foot shorter than the orginal Clark rope.

I have seen the ring buckle system but at this point I think I prefer the one piece and simple clip system of the biner and loops.

I have been places the last couple of weeks where I needed the rope and the slapstraps to be able to hang in an area I wanted. The area I wanted to hang only had a couple of tree's to hang from and they were about 22-25 feet apart.

I think your idea will work but I think it might limit you to where you hang maybe or maybe not.

Make sure the hammock can slide freely on the strap in the channel. If it catches the hammock will not hang correctly.

On my clark hammocks it looks like the channel is gather tight and the knot was tied as close as possible to the gathered hammock. Just the opposite of the Claytor which is designed to slide up and down the support webbing.
