Okay, so I'm looking to upgrade my suspension, and I was wondering what thoughts were on the Garda hitch. Will it mess up my rope (I'm planning on using 7/64 amsteel)? Will it break?

Don't do it. The cord gets pinched----very pinched---and flattens out. I stopped using the Garda Hitch for that application as soon as I saw that. I stopped before any failure, and I do not know definitively the degree to which the cord is degraded. But it looks bad. Not worth risking your safety on when there are so many other ways.
Instead of two rings and a Garda hitch, suggest you use 1 ring and a slippery buntline hitch. Much easier on the cord, and once you get the knack of it, easy to tie. Check out this page (http://www.animatedknots.com/buntline/), you make it slippery by inserting a bight in steps 6 and 7 rather than the working end.
just my humble opinion.
I was going to post a link to one of Grizz's youtube videos, but then I noticed the man answered you himself. I would take his advice on this one.

I use the Garda hitch on 3.8 mm Spyder line (http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?productId=25666&catalogId=10001&langId=-1&storeId=11151&storeNum=10102&subdeptNum=10232&classNum=10234) all the time and have not noticed any line denigration. It's slightly heavier but I just love the stuff.

I broke the core of 2.8mm Spyderline using a garda hitch. I really like Spyderline, glad to know the heavier grade is holding up.
