loft guidelines

hi all I was wondering if you could help me, I'm about to make a down top quilt, but I need to figure how much loft I need, I know I saw a guide a while back but try as I might I can't find it?
looking to make a 10 to 15°f quilt, not sure on the loft needed

3" of loft should be fine if you have average night time metabolism.
As a very cold sleeper I need 4" to be OK at 10 degrees.
Backyard testing is a great way to determine what YOU need in the
way of insulation.

A foot box should be considered a essential feature.

As the hammock community pushes to colder temperatures, I expect to see an evolution of the "cold weather TQ" design to something like the Big Agnes sleepings bags.

The BA bags are similar to TQs in that they have insulation on the top only but they also incorporate design features like full enclosure, hoods, and draft collars that trap body heat and limit the infiltration of cold air.

I just wish BS wasn't so overly optimistic in the temp rating of their bags.
