Some folks have described a use for a Molly Mac Gear Baby Orca IX UQ that I thought was pretty ingenious. Instead of ditching their pad when they got an UnderQuilt, they used the pad and IX UQ together.
The pad goes between the layers of a double layer hammock, and the IX UQ goes on the outside. It has the same effect as the discontinued Speer Pad Extender (SPE). The IX wraps up around the pad for shoulder and side insulation. Together, they will get most folks significantly below freezing.
Hogn8tr and one other Hfer, whose name escapes me, have described using an IX UQ in this manner. It's a very cost effective way to stay warm!
Perhaps some of the folks who have done this will tell us more about how it works.
