Is the Amsteel AHE sells 12-strand or 8-strand?
And as an aside- is there a difference in strength between the two?
If it is 7/64th it is 8 strand. I believe the 12 strand starts at 1/8th.
I actually sell both, but 1/8th is done as a special order now, as there is not a hanger amongst us that "needs" 2500 pound rated line to hang. The 7/64 is rated to about 1600 pounds, and is more than enough for everyone in a hammock application. It is 8 strand and I find it a little easier to splice than the 12 strands on the large sizes. But I can and will get any size Sampson makes.

Some of us have...ahem, been working at it though. :D
Good info, thanks Paul.

But, but... my car needs a hammock :D On a serious note yeah 1/8 is serious overkill for what we tend to do only thing I might use it for was a bear bag line. Even then it would be for the extra strands to make it harder for something to eat through than for the weight.

My wife and I have hung on 7/64 whoopies a lot. Even had all 3 kids piled in on top of us. If the 2 people where pretty heavy then 1/8th may be a better choice just for safety sake. But I have also not heard of anyone breaking a whoopie either.
Anyone done it?
