anyone ever use one of these in combo with a pad?

http://www.rei.com/product/407106

I have a closed cell thermarest as well as a "self inflating" thermarest and i was thinking about adding one of these to my set up for my upcomming winter road trip. right now i have a WBBB and i use my thermarest self inflator but i havent been below 30 in it yet. will be hitting grand canyon, new mex, tex, colorado and utah in dec and jan, most nights im looking at teens to 20s. think adding one of those would be worth it?
also with the double layer WBBB, should i put it directly below bad, or in the sleave with mat?

very interesting. tried to figure a way of doing that some time back with my supershelter. i gave up after getting the wbbb and unerquilt. i may pick one of these up for my sons rig.

Yeah i want a bottom quilt....but the reflector is 15 bucks lol . right now i use my pad and my marmot 15* bag. been fine so far but looking for a little extra warmth. what you all think, under bag or inbetween the two layer above my pad? (or below pad???)

I tried my Big Agnes synthetic fill ground pads (also the Warry Word bru pad) between the WBBB layers and it did not work well (yes I deflated ). Slipping and sliding was the issue and hard to adjust. I'd try the blanket between the double layer and keep the mat(s) inside with me.

Yes, I put it under the pad and wrapped it over my bag (burrito). Condensation gets nasty real quick. Also the weight prevented me from exploring any venting options. Mine ran close to 1.5 lbs, a little much for what it did (very little). Space blankets are rather hokey, some say great some not so much. I'm not a big fan. If you feel the need I would try a cheap flimsy one from WW. or try experimenting with LT weight over covers. I think SGT.Rock had some info on his site about heat loss and the space blanket fallacy.

so what im hearing is pad in the hammock with me, whats warmer, the closed cell or the self inflator? i live in CA so the bottom insulation hasnt really been a big issue. but now with AZ, NM, TX, CO and UT on the roster I want to make sure we are warm.
