I am trying to set up a ring buckle system on my hammock but the strap slips right through the rings. I am using two decending rings and Speer polypro 1 inch straps. What am I doing wrong?

what's on the other side of the buckles, holding them together? webbing or some kind of cord?
and how did you attach the webbing or cord to the buckles?

If you're using cord to hold the rings on the hammock side, try wrapping the larkshead around twice, like a double-larkshead if there is such a thing. And make sure the webbing lines up with itself on both sides of the rings.

I use Speer's webbing and it works fine if I do those two things.

yeah, i was wondering if it was just a case of the webbing slowly letting you down to the floor or not holding at all.

there are bound to be a lot of pictures in the gallery, but finding the right ones?

I can find my own though. One thing to be sure of is the part you didn't describe, the rope binding the rings together. See for example these rings (http://www.hammockforums.net/gallery/files/4/2/3/knots-4.jpg). The rings are laid on top of each other, the rope has a few wrappings around the rings and is tight.

Something else you can trip with slippery straps is to push a double-over strap between the rings and out the other side. This doubles the width.

or it could be that theres something fundamental here that you don't see and so can't describe. If the above doesn't help then maybe a picture of what you're doing would shed some light on the problem.

if you go to page 4 of blackbishiop's gallery you will see several pictures showing a good way to attach cord to a cinch buckle.
i believe that same method would serve well w/ the rings too.

if it's just slowly letting you down when you put your full weight on it, just tie a simple slip knot (like a half bow).
that will stop it from slipping & can be easily pulled out when it's time.
