MacCat Deluxe (http://www.outdoorequipmentsupplier.com/maccattarps.htm). They are about 13.5 oz.

Ooooooh, did you guys see he (Brian) has a 'limited run' of black MacCats?

Drool, drool, drool.

Would this cover 2 hammocks hung closely to each other?

I don't know, haven't tried it. I suspect you could make it work for light rain, but doubt it would be effective in a storm.

I know of one member here that has what Brian calls the 'titan' (take-a-knee, I think) and I'm pretty sure Brian will do custom orders. He is a member here, so you may want to shoot him a PM and ask about any custom options.

Speer Hammocks (http://speerhammocks.com/Products/Tarps.htm) also have several tarps within you weight range that will give you great coverage. JRB (http://www.jacksrbetter.com/) also makes a 8x8 tarp that weighs 9.4oz and a 11x10 hammock that weighs 18oz.

I'd also recommend Speer. The Winter Tarp is outstanding if you expect to be in any kind of winter storm. I believe it is more than worth carrying even though it is right on your weight line.

I couldn't find it but are the Speer Hammocks fully seam sealed and is the weight given include guylines and stuff sacks?

They are seam sealed and most (all but the winter tarp) come with stuff sacks, I think. Guy lines are optional.

If your an ounce counter, you might look at Mountain Laurel Designs hammock tarps. Ron will make either design in Silnylon, 0.97 Spinnker Fabric, and cuben fiber. Yep, MLD's tarps are more expensive, but to the hanging ounce counter who doesn't want to make a DIY tarp, they're a good choice. Just a thought, since everyone else mention the other major tarps used around these parts.

I know the feeling! I'm poor until the end of the month so I'm crossing my fingers that he still has one left come Feb.

I'm not brave enough to spend Spinntex kind of money until my sewing skills have improved....a bunch! If my tarp is going to cost like that, I want it to look like it cost that much!

I had an enlighting experiecnce sewimg my dad's tarp. I just made a template w/ seem allowences out of some $1 yd wal-mart fabric so my chances of screwimg up were greatly reduced. Although I did screw up the ridgeline a little, but nothing I couldn't fix. After that I feel more confident in making a tarp from spinnker.

Whatever tarp you end up with, consider GripClip.com pullouts to help make some room underneath.

I should be receiving my new tarp tomorrow. I order the Kelty noah9 it weighs 1lb6oz according to the description. You check it out at this site http://www.campmor.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?productId=12155&memberId=12500226 and here is a picture of it in use http://www.hammockforums.net/gallery/showimage.php?i=710&catid=member&imageuser=293.

That's kind of heavy for the size. Also, my Winter Tarp came with a stuff sack.

I'm hopin there is soooo much demand that he decides to keep them in stock. Then again, I do tend to be a dreamer.

My Speer winter hammock (dark green!) is 18 ounces, including stuff sack and all guy lines. Love it.

So I'm totally torn between the Speer 8x10 cat tarp and the Mac Cat standard. Suggestions? I need to pull the trigger quickly. $15 dollars is not a detterent between the two prices.

Did you request that Ed make it that color or did it just come that color, Assuming your actually talking about the Winter Hammock Tarp and not the Hammock, LOL?:D

I suspect you'll be very happy with either one. The Speer has more tie-outs which is an issue for me, but I've not heard anyone speak badly about it; quite the opposite. Both are run by good people with good products. Tough to make a bad decision.

My vote is for the MacCat, but that's JMO.

Just my opinion of course but Ed's tarp looks like a Macat with doors on it, also gives you the option for a larger tarp with no doors!

You may recall you saw the MacCat standard last Saturday (it was the grey one).
It's really not a lot of coverage(compared to an 8X10). The deluxe would be closer to being in the ballpark of the speer 8X10.
If you wanna borrow the maccat, you are more than welcome to it.

There has been mention of a green Speer Winter Tarp, but I have seen nothing about it on the website. I would certainly like to see pictures.

I've been putting off ordering to see if he put up different colors before spring as I've only seen the silver/white listed on the site. Hence my previous post.

I ordered a Speer 8x10 cat cut. I just hope to have it by next weekend for my bikepacking trip. I've been spreading the hammock gospel to my riding/camping buddies here in Austin. I've even been carrying it around on my rides to practice pulling it out and setting it up/tearing it down quickly.
I think I'm in love...

Did anyone ever test if you could get away with just two tent pegs per side on the winter tarp (for a standard pitch)?
BTW sherpa, if you're watching the grams find out if these weights include the pegs. The maccat's only gonna need 4, the 8X10 speer cat takes 6 and the speer winter takes 8.

Here's a few photos to clear up some coverage issues related to wind with a diamond shape tarp and the Speer WinterTarp. The WinterTarp shown is a prototype I made with white silnylon when I was finalizing the catenary darts to help keep it taut. I utilize shock cords on the side tie outs to help keep everything taut overnight. These photos are from Oct 2007 at Hawk Mountain Shelter on the Georgia AT when Joe and I did a backpacking trip.

With the WinterTarp you can block the wind pretty well. I choose a setup with the ends not totally closed off so I could get some ventilation, have a little more room, and have an easier entrance/exit than I would have had if I closed it all the way off. I have had to get up in the middle of the night and close one end off when the wind came at me from a direction I wasn't expecting but I don't close it all the way off unless I really need to because of space and ventilation/condensation considerations. There is not a whole lot you can do with the diamond shaped tarp but hope the wind only comes at you broadside.

My Winter Tarp came in brown. It may depend on what fabric he has available

Is that a Speer Winter Tarp? It looks different from mine.

Man that's a lot of white stuff.

Yes, the doors are in and are probably hard to see.
